I will be having my first (hopefully only!) coiling of a brain aneurysm on Sept. 17th. I am nervous and wondered if anyone who has been through it could give me some advice to help me calm down & get through it. My annie is 5mm. Thank you and please pray for me and my surgeon Dr. Domenic Rosso.
Hello and Welcome...not sure if I can make you feel better...since your feelings are part of the journey...but keeping positive is helpful for the surgery...also, if you can get Doctor to order you something to relax when the anxiety gets to bad...I found taking walks and hanging on to my faith helped...when Sept 17th arrives you will be so ready to get this show on the road and start the healing...~ wishing you a beautiful day ~ Colleen
Thanks Colleen. I will try to stay positive and post here afterwards how it all goes. How do I put my photo in the avatar box? I did upload a photo but not sure how to make my avatar my photo. Thanks.
Donna gosh it has been awhile since I added my pics...but what you must do is go to your page and then click on the avatar and it will say add picture...click there and follow instructions...if this doesn't work, let me know...~ Colleen
Hi Donna! Keeping you and your team in the o/r in thoughts and prayers and also your team at home!! For fear Prayer works best and diversion- anything you like-movies, books etc etc. You are on the right track, think positive in the fact they are fixing it before a devastating rupture- you don't want that. One lady used imagery and envisioned all her loved ones as they wheeled her in to surgery, i used denial and "transported" myself to a happy place, the beach! This technique was taught to me during chemo to keep from getting sick during injection and seemed to work well pre surgery, Hang in there Donna- you can do this! see you around!
Hi Donna, I have had 2 aneurysms coiled and stented in march and June of this year, 1 was a basilar tip and the other was in the Opthalmic region, both were +-6mm.
There was no side effects at all, you will go in to the hospital, be put to sleep and wake up, Job Done!
You have nothing to fear! so stay strong and try not to worry, it is a simple straight forward procedure that is carried out hundreds of times daily, worldwide, with no adverse effects at all!
I need to decide soon whether to have another 3 fixed by clipping, the only option available to me, still trying to get my head around open surgery.
Hi Donna, I had one after my annie, mine was an emergency, so no planning. I had one, to remove blood. I was walking on 2nd day, had my friend, a Massage Therapist come over and give me a massage and crainial therapy, no repercussions. On my 21st day, I had the shunt placed for NPH. Here I am! I was back seeing clients on my 3rd week after the all this got done. I also walked my dog, helped allot. Hope this helps, write me with any questions.
Having pending surgery for anything gone miss in our brains has got to be one of the most surreal waiting games in history. I've had 2 clippings and a coil, and when the coil compacted I was at a not too good hospital with a not so bright Neurosurgeon, so I escaped Hospital #1 and headed to Hospital #2, fully aware that I was willingly walking myself into a situation where brain surgery would be the final 'end game'( To this day I liken that situation to what it must be like to turn yourself into the police after being on the run ! lol) One thing that helped me immensely was hospital #1 had given me an RX for anti-anxiety meds (Xanax) --making my walk into The Green Mile --okay little exaggerated--a whole lot easier to deal with. Best o luck to you Donna! I know this isn't easy, Janet
Donna-- I am having the coiling and stenting done Sept 4th and I have had panic feelings daily but walking, driving in the car and looking at beautiful houses and browsing through antique shops distracted me. With all this - praying and reading God's word is my foundation for strength. I will pray for you and I just know you will be fine.
Thanks everyone who posted - you give me courage and hope that this will go well. Jeannie - please post after your procedure and let me know you are okay and doing well - I will be praying for you too - for a flawless and successful procedure and a quick recovery. Thanks all for understanding my fears - it helps to be heard and not judged. :)
Hi Again Jeannie. One last thought from me, please mail us all and let us know that you are fine, trust me you will be, have a nice sleep and it will soon be over and you will wonder why you worried in the first place.
I will definitely let you know how I am doing. I live alone so I will be going home initially with my son and family. As soon as I get home I will make a post on this site. I will always listen to your fears and I understand completely about "being heard and not judged." Everyone on this site understands!
I will but it will not be till I get home from my son's. I live along and the Neurosurgeon doesn't want me alone for a few days. Thanks Martin for all your kindness!
Hi again Jeannie, Ask your son to organise a BBQ for 2 days after the procedure for you the family and friends, that is how confident I am that you will be well and strong imediately!
Trust me on this one, been there twice this year and got the badge or should it be said 2 badges this year alone.
Relax, have fun and enjoy the best sleep ever, then wake up refreshed and get on with your life.
Martin - you are awesome! If you didn't live so far away I would buy you a drink when I get well! :) You are wonderful and such an upbeat person! I have been sick all day today....tummy issues and headache and you just made me feel better!
Jeannie, You will not need to get well ? because you are not ill, they will fix the little bugger, there after forget about it, have another scan after 6 months and it will be occluded (fixed)
Donna-I was just re-coiled 8/30. Came home 8/31. I had a ruptured aneurysm 18 mos ago. It and an unruptured one were both coiled at that time. The coils in the ruptured one compacted so I had some more coils added. I hurt from the IV site but no headache or pain at the groin site. Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I looked at it like maintenance on a car. 50,000 you have to do something. 18 mos my head needed more coils.
I am home and my surgery went good but they found another aneurysm behind my right eye but it is a "watch and recheck" in situation. Thanks to everyone for your prayers! Now I have a question: How long will these awful headaches last??? They are terrible!
So glad it went well for you. Hugs and hopes for a speedy recovery. Good that they know to watch the other one too. Take good care of yourself Jeannie.
