Has Anyone Had An Angiogram/Arteriogram?

I agree after reading this It calms me a bit , I also canceled mine LOL

So sick of surgerys had three for pre cancer beat that now the battle go's on for more fun stuff .

Hey Barbara, I had an arteriogram in October and it really wasn't bad. Yes, you are awake because they have to ask you to hold your breath from time to time as they take images of your brain arteries. But, you do not feel any pain or discomfort. The staff at Emory were wonderful. To be honest, the hardest part of the procedure is lying still in recovery for a few hours so bring a book or something. It really is not bad and it helps the doctors with your diagnosis and treatment.

Take care and best to you

Bless you Barbara. Thank goodness you are donig this so they can take good care of you. The groin thing and all that sounds awful but really, it's not bad at all. My fears were much worse than the procedure. it was like, "is that all?" Sounds like you have been so through much already. Must be a very strong person. I promise that sedative works and keeps you from pain. Please don't worry about that just get better!

Susan

Susan,

Yes , I plan on bringing a book for I remember waiting to go in for my surgery while waiting in the prep room putting the IV in and there was a hold up , my god after a while my back was killing me on that guerney and kept shifting around , I had to wait a long time before going in .

I was sent to Dr Balcom this vascular surgeon due to my legs and he tells me things I never even thought of, I thought the issues with my legs going knumb was due to my artritus in my spine , now he tells me a solid brut in my neck and he keeps asking are you sure you haven't had a TIA ...98% I have heart desease but I have no signs of that,,, After reading this blog I wonder if its my brain also , All hereditary , after this arteriogram nervous as to what they will find . Thank you so much for your info on this subject its a big help :0)

How do you know if your going to be allergic to the dye though ??

Susan

Tell you the truth after being told I have onclussive artery desease and not just my legs and sold brut in my neck on New yrs day I was highly frustrated .

The battle and fear and waiting for all my biopsys results for my pre cancer was so draining .

The only reason I went to the gyno is I has small lumps had them for some time and made excuses for them thinking it was reaction to soap , I went because I was about to be a grand mother for the very first time , a little beautiful baby girl.

When sitting on the exam table the gyno walked in with her laptop and said I hope you realized that this little baby about to be born saved your life .I had no idea I had HPV and it turned into cin 111 most advanced stage. I would not have gone otherwise I wanted to see my grand daughter born

After 3 surgerys for that now this illness with my arterys I think I fear most . Pick your poison artery desease of cancer ?? Don't know which is worse.

But Arteries I am finding it could be all through me its not just my legs . My dad, all his brothers passed away from heart attacks . But women don't survive them the way a man does. I wish you good Health Susan :0)

Yes, I have to be strong and after my total hysterectomy I aced that , the nurse was shocked I got up right away and no pain killers after the surgery. She said I was 3 steps ahead of the game and I was one tough cookie.

I am sure this will be ok with my new battle with my no good arterys I suppose but fear it for they will do what they can but question is how much more will these arterys of mine keep clogging and closing.

I am 64 as of this month and I asked my vascular surgeon is What if I go through all of this for my arterys in my legs , neck etc and still have issues walking the distance due to my advanced deneration of my spine ? He didn't have an answer for me .

Its called bad quality of life I fear. I was a CNA for 20 yrs and I prey I do not end up like them . Golden yrs they say ??? no maybe not for me .

My body is making me fight for life for sure. But I do it for my grand child and my two daughters . With everything that has been put on my plate fighting my aging I am blessed the man above let me stick around to meet my little angel Dahlia who just turned 1 yrs old.

Sorry I guess I have been through a lot and more to come and talk way too much .

Have a great day :0)

Barbara, I had the procedure 3 times and have a terrible allergy to iodine. Premedicated and also given a ativan before procedure..it doesnt hurt at all just much pressure at first. After your back hurts a bit so they give you a shot in your iv. Go home and stay in bed. It is all good. I had to take a benedryl or two when I got home for red face.much peace to you Barbara.

What has me confused is what my vascular surgeon told me he said I can not gaurentee you will be going home that day for I may not only be doing stents or balloons but also surgery .

He says I have multiple blockages in my legs and if I don't do it I could end up with amputation so makes me wonder what does he actually think is going on with me .

Wondering how the heck can you be prepped for non invasive arteriogram then what ever they find they go from that to surgery when I was not prepped for that only getting sedation unless they plan on keeping me over night after the arteriogram and then next day wheeling me in for surgery . Every time I went in for my past 3 surgerys for my cancer thing my blood pressure would sky rocket . Its like putting a rabbit in front of a cobra I panick LOL

Hi Susan,
Following my rupture ( 4 years ago next saturday ) , I have had 6 arteriogram to follow up the situation.
No problem with the procedure…think this really save your life…
Take care of you, keep us posted.

I had the angiogram through my femoral artery in my right groin area. I have an old injury in the same area so the procedure caused me a little extra pain. The procedure itself was fine. I was partially awake but the surgeon numbed me pretty well. The dr left me flat for 4hrs and used a pressure dressing to help my blod clot and to seal the site. If u can stand it look up the videos on YouTube for the procedure. It isn’t as bad as u think it will be. And good luck with whatever you choose to do!!
