Had my surgery yesterday

The doctor found that I had two annies next to each other. One was the large one they were aware of and the other was a smaller one. The PED was able to cover both of them and he put 2 coils in the larger annie as well. I have 2 annies on the right side also. The doc called them mirroring aneurysms because they’re in the same spot as the ones I just had surgery on on the left side. He said after I come in for my 6 month angio we can schedule for a PED for those two. I’m at home now, my groin area is sore, and my head hurts. I think I liked being in the hospital more because they kept me high on morphine so the pain didn’t bother me. But I can’t complain much, I’m happy to be alive. Now that I know what to expect I’m hoping the next 6 months go by quickly so I can get this second surgery out the way and hopefully live a long healthy life.

Awesome news! Lots of rest and drink lots of water!

Congrats Kenya, am so glad that all went well with your surgery.

Please remember that you just had brain surgery and rest, rest and rest! I cannot tell you enough how many have felt great after the surgery only to be knocked down quickly from trying to do too much!

You are in my thoughts and prayers and please keep us posted on your recovery.

Linda

Thanks Linda. I’m trying to rest as much as possible. Kids went back to school today so that will give me even more quiet relaxation time. how long was it before you were back 100%?

Hi Kenya,

I can't really say exactly when I got to 100% exactly, or even if I am there now. My life really changed the day my annies were found. I am not the same person I was, but my surgery was 14 months ago, on June 8, 2011. I got my PEDs just about 5 weeks after the FDA approved them for use. Being that I was one of the first to get the PED (outside of the clinical trials and compassionate use surgeries) was very difficult, because no one knew what PED was! Then I found Giovanni, who is the other administrator of this Group with me and we started this Group in order to find more PED recipients. From the two of us, our Group has grown and we have lived through everyone's surgeries and learned so much along the way.

You will start to feel better and stronger every day, I just don't want you to think you will ever be the same as you were. You are now an aneurysm survivor with the latest and greatest invention!

We are all here to help you through this new journey so all you have to do is ask and you will get loads of answers!

Please keep us posted on your journey, we are here to help you travel down that new road!

Best wishes,

Linda

I an definitely agree with that, I don’t foresee my life ever being the same. Between still having 2 untreated annies and no long term data on the PED I’m pretty much venturing out into the unknown. I’m glad I found this site though because its been so difficult. I found out about the first aneurysm just last month then found out on Friday that there were 4 altogether. I have family and friends I can talk to but none of them fully understands how it feels to be living with the fears of what could happen. This has definitely been the LONGEST 6 weeks of my life. It’s somewhat comforting having some place to come and talk to people that have been and are going through the same thing, especially since there is so little information out there on the PED.

Hugs to you, I am glad you found us too! Together, we shall all travel down this road!

It is a great day to be alive On june second I found out I had two annies on the 6th I had the first one coiled the second on june 28th was coiled and the pipeline device used because it had a bigger opening both were 13mm anyway I am back to work feeling better then I have in years. No more headaches more energy. I am blessed. So you know it will get better. I was sore and had headaches about two weeks wish you the best will be saying a prayer for you. each morning on m y way to work i call my sister to tell her what a great day it is to be alive and be able to go bback to work I was off two months total. And I am 61 years old.

Hi Dorothy and welcome to the PED Group!

I am so happy to hear that you have had such a good experience, post PED. as you say, we are all blessed to be alive!

I had my PED back on June 8, 2011 so I am just about 15 months post op. I have no residual side effects from the PED, although I do have other health issues. I also have another 3mm annie which is on watch and wait for growth.

Best wishes to you and welcome to our Group!

Linda

Kenya,

Welcome to the PD group. I had a PED on May 11, 2012. I had some headaches off and on for about two weeks. Didn't have stamina and energy I had previously for about 8 weeks. Feel fine now; do have some anxiety occasionally that I had not experienced before learning of my annie. Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Dearest Kenya..the ups and downs for the next few weeks will in my opinion be due to stress. Please rest. Please get well. Please know we all are thinking wonderful thoughts about you. xoxo Denise

Thank you Denise. You’re probably right about the stress. The whole surgery and trying to recover alone is stressful and on top of that my kids went back to school 3 days after surgery so I’m trying to balance getting rest and trying to get back into the routine. I’m feeling much better now. Still feeling a little weak and getting headaches but I’m no longer sore at the incision site and not as tired.

Cereal for dinner and breakfast..peanut butter and jelly for lunch for a few weeks will not hurt anyone..if it does, humm oh well. IT is all about you. for now. one more time, IT IS ALL ABOUT YOU.rest today and look at the sky and the end of the summer flowers.
