Eye pain? and now unequal pupils

can an aneursym cause eye pain? i have been dealing with moderate to severe eye pain since aug 2011. almost a year of constant daily pain. i was dx with ms in 2001. so when i first experience this pain back in august 2011. i thought i had a case of optic neuritis. called my neuro and he put me on 3 days of iv steroids after a little bit the pain was gone. well a month later i had the same right eye pain called neuro and he put me on 4 days of iv steroids. and again it went away then it came back in same eye. now i have a new neuro that has done nothing for me. so i went to my pcp and told her about my eye pain also about the pains in my head and neck so she orders a cta of brain/neck. seems like i have a small aneursym maybe 2-3mm on the anterior communicating artery on the left side. would an aneursym in that location cause eye pain? i go to a new neuro next week that deals with headaches and strokes. i also have facial pain or the same side. when i wake up in the morning i feel like a pirate. one eye opens the right one stays closed. i literally have to open it with my hand to put my contact in. also about a month a go i noticed that the right side of my face across my forehead was tingly and felt weird. i went to eye doctor because of this eye pain and he noticed that my right pupil does not respond very good to light. so now i have to go back in a week for an oct (optical coherence tomography). i just want the pain to stop.

Deenalyn,

Obviously the Neurologist will give you the best information. The optic and olfactory nerves are located adjacent to the Anterior Communicating Artery. The right and left brain hemisphere's have a right and left optic and olfactory nerve branch. Depending on what way the aneurysm is growing can have different symptoms. Unless I missed it you didn't indicate which eye is painful. As I understand the nerve anatomy, excepting the skull, each hemisphere serves the opposite side of the body. In the skull, I believe that each side "innervates" or affects the same side. Why you would have the right sided pirate eye seems unusual unless the aneurysm is pushing one of the nerves too much that it affects the trigeminal nerve causing the facial pain. As I indicated, your Neurology specialist can explain it in more detail.

im sorrry the right eye is painful

Hi Deenalyn...

I have awful heavy pain in my right eye...so reading your post hits home for me...I have and untreated annie behind my left eye and one that is coiled on my basilar annie...I am told by Neurologists it has nothing to do with aneurysm's...I have my doubts at times...this pain in my right eye started after coiling...infact, after coiling in NICU...both the nurses and my husband saw weakness on the left side of my face and my eye drooped...to the point like you it would just close shut...same thing happened at the age of 17 when I had "Bells Palsy"...but was told that effects my 7 cranial nerve...now they are telling me my 3rd cranial nerve is damaged...I still have a journey and am waiting for my next step...I feel for you and the pain...one neuro wanted to give me something recently...(meds) and I said "no"...I am on enough...my eye droops often, esp when I am tired...the pain is hard to explain...but I know what it is ...I tell my husband it is so heavy and painful...but spreading to right side of face...as I find out more I will pass it on to you...

Like Ed...I too wonder if it has something to do with trigeminal nerve...~
