Coiling procedure and headaches

I Would like to get as much info as i can on coiling and headaches, my husband has them everyday all day. It has been six mths and he still has them. He takes the fircoet, the pill that everybody takes that helps them and it doesn't do nothing for him. He has took hydrocodone and it don't stop them either.

Hello Cindy i heard that coiling does cause head aches, but not to every one. I don't know why that is.

Could you go to another Doctor for another opinion. I wish i could help you.

God Bless

Nikki xx

Hi Cindy...Please call a Neurologist and have your husband see what other options are available...it is over 19 months since coiling and I still get bad headaches, but no longer daily...I do know if you take feriocet too much, one can get "rebound headaches"...it is a side effect...a Doctor should be able to help ... there are other things available...keep us posted...Gotcha hubby in my Thoughts ~ Colleen

Hi Cindy

I'm 8 months post coiling and still get headaches particularly if I do too much. I also have a nerve irritation pain which is different and I get a short pain if I move my head too quickly, bend, accelerate of decelerate in the car or drive over bumps. They are not bad enough to bother me. At 4 months I decided to come off all analgesics, except amitriptylline for nerve irritation, because I wondered if I'd developed an analgesic headache. After no analgesics for 2 weeks I found I no longer needed them and any mild headaches were unlikely to develop into something severe. Over the months I've had a few days with much more severe headaches, probably migrainous (pre diagnosis I got migraine auras but no pain) and have taken analgesics a couple of times in a day/night. Most of the time I just put up with the ache or disappear to a quiet room, close my eyes and rest. Eating also seems to help. Others on here recommend drinking lots of water, but I haven't found that makes any difference to me. Perhaps because I live in a cold country!?

I suspect if your husbands pain is all day everyday they are either analgesic induced headaches or 'tension' headaches. Most other headaches respond to analgesia. I suggest you have a chat with a neurologist or pain specialist.

went back to the neuro dr yesterday and he said the coiling doesn't cause headaches, but ive heard from too many people that it does cause headaches. So he gave him nothing but was talking to him like he was gonna give him new meds but when he left he had no prescriptions. He got aggervated when my husband told him that i was on this site and people say they have headaches from coiling procedure.

hey jo, he went back to his head dr yesterday and he didn't give him nothing for pain and no meds at all. he got aggervated because ive been talking to this site and said it was bull and that coiling doesn't cause headaches, but i beg to differ, since some drs have told patients that they will have bad headaches after coiling but his neurosurgeon didn't tell us that and he still says it doesn't. He went to his six mths checkup and it was good and i talk with the surgeon and he says to go back to his head dr and we did and nothing, absoutely nothing did he do for him. I am so aggervatged that nobody will give him nothing for it. I am in the process of taking him to a pain clinic to get him relief

Cindy, Read your posting & thought I was writing it. I am 23months from my rupture annie & coiling, & then 11months from my stent & recoiling. i have always experience headaches, but real bad one since the coiling. I took alot of pain pills for the lst few months & then gradually went to using fewer & fewer. i still have headaches but only when I push myself to much. It does get better, I know you keep hearing this but its true. Give it some time. When you think about it 6 months isn't that far out. After my second coiling & stent surgery, I did have fewer headaches. Now the only thing I take for pain is Tylenol. Some days I take it once & then other days not at all. Try to hang in there, as it will get better. Try to keep away all stress & i spend alot of time in a dark room. I know its not easy, but your not alone. This site is great for support that the doctors can't give you. Thinking of you & your in my prayers.

Cindy...I am a personal pursuer / payer of acupuncture, yoga and craniosacral therapy ...and activator chiropractic care (light touch) ..I was off pharmafia six months out of the hosptial...those types of choices are my personal ...

Since the drugs are not helping your hubby, I pray that you may consider pursuit of other functions...

I have no expertise...just my personal experiences...geared to avoid toxins, contraindications, and reactions / allergies in my system...

HI Cindy - I had my first coiling procedure done seven years ago. I had alot of headaches the first couple of years but with time they have gotten less frequent. Stress, weather, being overtired are things I have noticed that can trigger an episode for me. Seeing a pain specialist or getting a second opinion from another neurologist may help. I do know that first couple of years were tough but tell your husband to hang in there. As time goes on it does get better. Take care.....God bless. Roxanne

RRRR .... Doctors piss me off . Yes they save our lives and for that we are obviously grateful . My doc told me that my short term memory issues and headaches have nothing to do with the rupture or the coils . He went on to say that sure maybe a month or 2 after rupture but anything after that isn't related . My rupture was May 5 ,2011 I have 9 coils and 1 stent . I never had a problem with hjeadaches until AFTER my rupture .

Hi Amanda,

Sounds like your Doctor is not supporting you very much. As you can see from the site many people have short term memory problems and headaches. Maybe you should get another opinion it does not sound as if the information he is giving you is helping you.

thank you so much for your help on this, i was told tonight by a friend that her sister had coiling ten years ago and still has headaches, i went into tears and lost it because i had hopes that with a year or two maybe my husband would be better and i was devestated until i just read your message, thanks i feel so much better and now have hope that he will be better someday.

i think i do need another opinion cause i keep hearing so many different stories, my husbands dr want say that coiling causes his headaches but i think it does, and i am hoping that he won't always have them.

i am a cta chiropractic therapy technician, so i know a great deal about that issue and it won't help the pain my husband is in

Cindy...has it been tried? the reason I ask on that is because the minimally invasive coiling...does not address how we can/may be tied down to the angio table...blah-de-blah...I also had a "collision" in Rehab that was well hidden except for the x-ray billing...family not advised... nor was it noted in the final RehabDC story format...

The activator chiropractic has been/is a god-send to me...along with the other...

Also, be sure to secure the records and clinical data that supports it; and request CD/DVD of the angios pre, during and post procedural...a/w/a itemized statements for the ICDs/ CPTs...

Wishes and Prayers...for continued recovery...I think there is a spouse group...

hi roxanne, i was just wondering if my husband will ever quit having headaches, he has them all the time everyday, they give him topramax 25mg to help with the migraines, but he has been taking it for over a week now, probably not enough mg's, they will have to go up and up until they find out how much miligrams it will take for the migraines to stop. what medicine did you take and did it help, nobody will give him nothing for the pain while he is waiting to find out which migraine/seizure med will help, but they still need to give him something for pain to work and function until they find out which pill will work and make them better, but no dr will give pain medicine and its killing me that he hurts all the time, he crys and even wants to give up living, don't know what to do, im trying to get him into a pain clinic for his back pain cause he had a 10 hr surgery years ago for his bad back, so the pain clinic won;'t see him for headaches so im getting him to them for the back pain, and it will help his head and back when i ever get him a apt with them.

I still have headaches it had been 3 years for me. But my brain was full of blood they tell that is caused mine.
