2nd Angio at the 2 year point - Risk of Stroke

Hi All, I wonder if anyone can help me. I am due a second Angio at the two and a half year point, post the insertion of a EV3 Pipeline stent in the IRCA. I had a fusiform Annie. My Neuro tells me that I can have a stroke with the Angio though I dont know why because I was told that my Annie was shown to be occluded at the 6 month Angio. So why is there a risk of stroke at this point with the Angio? does anyone have an answer?

Any angiogram I've had done, I've always been informed the possibilities of stroke! ....% not high though

Glynis...welcome...I do not have a Pipeline...tho I have other off-label/off-record stents...

In some research I have done on other various stents...at least one of them, in the "patient labeling" noted the potential of developing plaque (the stuff that can/may develop in our arteries causing stroke)... so it depends on how any company,. and the doctors marketing it... explains and/or provides the patient labeling paper to the patients...

You may want to call and ask him/her for what was provided... or will be provided...

I know that on those related to me...the patient labeling was in the sealed shipping/storing box...and, even for the on-label/of-record they were not available to give to the patient until after the box(es) were opened...after the patient was under some form of anesthesia...likely unable to read any data then...

What I have addressed only related to mine...

This might be a great one for you to address w/the Pipeline / PED Groups...tho seems to me that it should be the doc first... because that should always be available for the marketing of any of the products...

Best wishes for your best / right results in your f/up...

Pat

It is quite magnificent your docs have been so clear / so defining...it is a pleasure to read/hear...

But did they provide "patient labeling"?

Hugs,

Pat

Just curious....why the angiography instead of a CTA scan?

Thanks Dee, maybe they just have to warn us of this possiblility.

Thanks Pat, I will ask for this information.

Thanks Jo, Maybe my next follow up after this one will be by MRA hope so. I am feeling worried now about the Angio having got this far.

My Neuro said he wanted to look at the blood vessels. Maybe they cannot see them on a CTA. A guess. Sandy.

It make you wonder Jo at which point can we feel that we can forget about them. I mean, accept that the treatment has worked and they are no longer a threat to us?

When I found out last month that I needed to have an angiogram, and more coiling if required, and that the procedure carried "some risk of complications", I immediately started researching. The consensus I saw about the risks was about a 4% risk of complications if more coiling was required, and under 1% risk from just the angiogram itself. Complications could range up to, and including, stroke, but other less-serious complications are also included in that probability. For example, when I originally had coiling done for my SAH a year ago, I developed an aneurysm in the artery in my upper leg and groin area where the procedure was done from. The bruising kept getting worse for several days, and eventually the doctors had to do a minor operation to stop the bleeding under the skin. My leg was so black and blue that it looked like it had been run over by a truck, and was so sore that I had to walk with a cane when I first got out of the hospital. However, it healed completely. That would be considered a "complication" that would be included in the above risks.

Thanks Frank that has eased my mind a bit. Its just that I am beginning to feel normalized again and I was afraid of having anything that would set me back. I am sure you can understand that.

Hi Glynis,

Please know that your concern is very valid when our doctors just have to tell us about all of the Risks associated with these procedures; yet it's so important to remember that an Angio is considered the "Gold Standard" of procedures to allow for our doctors to provide us with that "Peace of Mind" news that we all are patiently waiting to hear --> clean bill of Health :))! We also hear of these Risks outside of Angiograms as well...when we go and have a tooth pulled; we have to sign our life away for that too. Hang in there and Hope for the best with your upcoming Angio!
