Post Anurysum Clipping Side Affects

I had my annie coiled feb 29, 2012. I have headaches and migraines almost everyday. I really don’t like the rolling pains in my head that sometimes stops me in my tracks. Every medication that I was given seems to upset my stomach. I now take Imitrex only when I can’t take the pain any longer. Loud noises bother me. I seem to see thing moving faster than they are actually moving. I went back to work 4 days after my surgery. Thank God I have a great employer. I tire so easily. Sometimes i push myself to far and end up in the bed for a couple of days. In a 7 day period I may sleep 24 hours. I sometimes take over the counter sleeping pills to give my body a chance too rest. I’m going to keep on going and never give up. Like you my Cat scan was clear. Never give up.

Hey Gerry. I had my surgery Feb 29, 2012 and I still have the same issues as you. CT was clear. I can do the headaches but the migraines are the worst. I also have seizures only on the right side of my body (surgery was on the optical nerve behind my left eye). I have face swelling on the left. After hearing 3 hospitals state that they could not do my surgery I’m just glad to be alive. I had my surgery at John’s Hopkins Hospital right here in Baltimore Maryland.

It has been 2 yr and 4 mths since I had my aneurysm clipped. I still experience headaches. My doctor prescribe Botox injections which have reduced the ocurrance of the head aches.

I had clipping April 20, 2012. There were a lot of different experiences during recovery. Some scarier than others. But today I am 99% back to normal with small migraines every 3-5 days but rizatriptan takes care of it within 30-60 minutes. It gets better over time.

Thank you all very much replying to my initial question. Hearing from each and everyone of you does make me feel so much better, and blessed that I am still here, and I will continue to monitor this site and offer my support. I live on the East Coast of Australia, and in searching for information came across this Canadian site, so again thank you. I haven’t found anything like this in Australia. God bless each and everyone of you.
Regards
Gerry.

Yes Melissa, one of my great loves: Music and playing in a band. By the way, our band is called ‘Mad Mule’, named after our favourite muscian and his band, who happens to be a Canadian…Neil Young and Crazy Horse. Of course, Neil suffered an aneurysm himself and continues to live and play great music.

Ok, ok GUITAR. Its aphasia with a stylus. …

I feel extremely lucky. I had my clipping done in August 2013. I was in ICU for three weeks in San Francisco. Lucky to have a great surgeon at USF hospital. Then transferred to San Diego for rehab. I live near San Diego. This all happened while visiting friends in Central Valley California. I live in Southern California. I had some eye problems with my right eye which would not open for a few weeks. Saw a specialist for that. My neurologist in San Diego has released me from his care and said I am completely healed and most likely will not have a recurrence. I have had a few small headaches but the migraines I had my whole life are gone. It took a while for them to go away. The doctor had me on oxygen twice a day for 10 minutes to help with the pain. Like I said I am extremely lucky.

Hi! I had clipping for SAH close to four years ago. I experienced everything you listed. It did get better for me after a year or more. The dull headaches lasted the longest, but they too went away. Congrats for making it through everything and the good check up. Take good care! Cindy

Gerry, I had a clipping 5 years ago and I suffered with migraines post surgery. I didn’t have them prior to surgery. For the first 3 years I felt tired after being active for a few hours and had to take rest times. Cold and hot weather seem to trigger headaches so wearing a hat helps. I still get dull pain in clipping area but not as frequent as before. I lost 85% of my vision during surgery so my recovery has been slow due to major adjustments. Becoming active at the YMCA has helped me tremendously. You will get better with time, learn to make quiet time for yourself, listen to your body. God bless you.

Totally normal I am 1 year 3 months post clipping no rupture clipping. And I just got over the tiredness and still have slight jaw pain. I had scan and all was good.

It has been 4 1/2 years since my craniotomy. I had endovascular coiling due to a ruptured brain aneurysm 6 years prior to that. The coils compressed and I was diagnosed with third cranial nerve palsy which led to the craniotomy. I remember the craniotomy recovery very well even though it was a few years ago. I was 37 at the time. It took me a full year to start feeling like myself again. I experienced mild headaches on and off and remember not being able to open my jaw wide for some time without discomfort. It eventually subsided, however, whenever it gets cold out, the section of my head which was cut tightens and aches. Nothing that requires pain medication. Glad to hear that CT scan came out okay. Hang in there. Everyone recovers differently. Good luck!

So very glad testing results were good. I have word/thought recall issues and I had a series of seizures a week after my clipping surgery and had to be readmitted to the hospital. I am doing good now and have returned to work again. Hopefully, this will go away and you will be a lot better soon. Also, I had headaches before surgery, but not now.

Hi Gerry,

So sorry you continue to have headaches and jaw pain!! When they did the ct, did they use dye? I had a rupture and clipping 12 years ago and continued to have headaches and I've seen a lot of others that had a clipping complain that they could not open their mouth all of the way because of jaw pain.. I went in every 2 years and had a ct with dye/contrast. I would usually request it through my primary care doctor and they always said yes because of my history..Now, I was not instructed to do so but I did it anyway and it's a good thing that I did because my clipped aneurysm redeveloped into a fusiform aneurysm and I had the pipeline embolization device or the P.E.D. as they call it put in on 12-12-12.. I don't want to cause fear because the chances of that happening are very, very, rare but at the same time, you have to be your own advocate. If you are concerned about anything, you go in and get checked! I'm somewhat jaded because the same neuroradiologist that performed my ct TWICE in almost 4 years, missed my redeveloped aneurysm TWICE.. So I walked around with a time bomb in my head for almost 4 years clueless..

I will pray for speedy healing and peace in your heart!

Donna, did they say the seizures were related to the aneurysm??

Hi, I had my clipping in July 2013 and just realized recently that I don’t have many headaches, or much jaw pain or light sensitivity anymore. It took a long time but it does get better…best wishes

Hi Gerry I had my aneurysm clipped on the 13th January just gone I am suffering the same systems as you. I am from Australia I two would like to know how long does it all last, and how soon before you can go back to work .
Cheers Helen

Hi Gerry, I’m the other side of this big island from you, I’m in Perth. I had a ruptured aneurysm 5 weeks ago, I had coiling tho, not clipping.
So far so good! Headaches have mostly subsided but tiredness is still quite a problem. Doesn’t help that I’m 6 months pregnant I guess. Got my first follow up apt with the neurologist tomorrow.
Hope your pain subsides soon.
Denise

Hi Denise and Helen from Australia. Glad to hear both of you have got through the initial experience of this frightening health issue. We can only hope that our symptoms reduce over time. I found an Australian Facebook site supporting aneurysm patients. Have a look. All the best to both of you, and especially Denice with your pregnancy.

Gerry, Good Evening.

My name is Miguel Rodríguez, from Veracruz, México, and as you, I had a clipping of an Aneurysm almost 4 years ago.

And let me tell you that as you, at the beggining I felt with mental fatigue and tiredness, but as the time has passed, this is minor. I recomend you to exercise with simple games: cards; memory games; wor search, and so on. And belive me: it Works!

Don't feel desperate, cause this (Aneurysm) is not easy to handle, but not impossible!

If you need to know more about the recovery process, just let me know about it.

Miguel Rodríguez (from Veracruz, México).

Hi Gerry. I am from South Africa. I had a clipping of an aneurism, which did not errupt, on the 6th of July 2014 and I am thankful to say that my simptomes did not last that long and I started working again on the 1st of August 2014. Those simptomes you are experiencing was also part of my recovery process and I find myself now and then with a headache. The most common simptome I experienced in mid 2015 was forgetfulness which I had checked out by means of a 24-hour EEG monitor with 22 cables literally glued to my head as well as a MRI and Angiogram. The results came back and indicated that there was no reason for panic. Everthing that was tested was all good. I suppose we are all different but in the end if it bothers you get it checked out regularly and even if everythings good rather be safe than sorry. The fact that you are alive after the aneurism ruptured is a miracle in itself.
