I was curious on what Im going to feel like post coiling with stents? I have the procedure done at the end of September..just wondering what to expect or any good advice?
Virginia...welcome...and my crazy questions...I was coiled...and stented...off-label and off-records...(not off the billing/CPT coding) so in a sense I have a lot to offer...additionally, a picture is worth a thousand words; yet, one picture will not tell the full story...
My personal opinion...non-degreed and non-licensed...presumably, likely, and probably not too doctored...
is that when symptoms occur from the blood fill of an aneurysm....replacing the blood with coils will not alter the size...the cause of the symptoms...the size does not shrink... often, coils can extrude/protrude the walls of the aneurysm....and, frequently (it seems) coils compact requiring additions...
I can only assume that your neuro-doc explained all these potentials to you... if not, please, when you get more input here from others...you will be able to put together a number of questions to ask your neuros...
I was wired...and, will leave it at that... except my major question to you...of which artery hosts your aneurysm...
Virginia, many prayers for you to secure so much info here in order to ask all the questions you need for your neuros on what to expect... and, remember this is geared at my personal experience...not expertise...

Hi Virginia
Welcome to BAF…I had the stent and coil procedure done on the 29th June 2012 …I was the first person in western Australia to have a new type of stent place the new stent is called a LVIS stent it is for Annie’s with a wide neck which mine was or is should I say is lol…I was told that I’d be in a ICU ward for 2/3days then accessed to go home I was moved to a ward after the first day and was allowed to go home on the 3 rd day to be honest I felt that good I could of gone home the next day I felt but they said I had to rest…after a week at home I went back to work and have been working 10 hours a day 6 days a week since I feel good a little tired at night but still good …I went to see my surgeon a month after he was very happy with my progress said I had to stay on palvix for another 2 months and aspirin until I see him next year for my follow up angiogram .which will be 12 month after some have them at 6 months but he said its best to wait 12 mths … I hope this has helped you some .
Thanks jimmy
Hello Virginia, hope you're well. Don't know much about coiling and stents, but you will recover much more quickly than having clipping done.
All the best and God Bless

Hi Virginia ... everyone is so different that it is hard to say...however, I can tell you...you will need lots of rest for the brain to heal...and my Doctors told me for up to 6 months after the procedure (coiling) I could experience some bad headaches...you will also, encounter a wonderful blessed feeling of being alive and a bit of depression and anxiety at the same time...it happens to be an emotional roller coaster for a bit, but does get better...most of all, let your brain be your guide...when you have had enough...stop what you are doing and rest...
You will be in our prayers ... ~ Colleen
Virginia, are u having a PED stent? have you had symptoms? Im still having headaches or what I call head pain on the left side..But everyone is different and yours might go wonderfully.. I'll be praying for you..
Virginia, I had the coiling with stent on the 24th of August, I have been a little tied and I still have a headahe but not like before. Each day is getting better and I do have my own pitty party. My neurosurgeon wanted to do the clipping but because of the located it was to risky to drill without the aneurysm rupturing, I am just glad that the aneursym was found before it was to late. Wish you well
Yes i am having the stent put in at the end of sept.. I just have mild headaches now.. How long was yr surgery last?? they told me about 6 hours.. is your memory good?? Im soo curious!! I know everyone is different and that makes this so hard! I Hope you are resting and take care :)
My surgery was about six hrs. I had a very bad headache when the meds wore off?. I think my memory is good…lol…, but I still suffer headaches on the side where they found the Annie… How big is your Annie? I’m sure u will do great…
