Should my children be scanned?

Thank you for all who welcomed me! I am a 5 1/2 year survivor & was successfully coiled at Upstate Medical in Syracuse, NY. My three children are adults & I have been told by my doctors they would not recommend them getting tested. I, on the other hand will never stop worrying…should they scanned one not?

my specialist advised me to have my kids scanned. if i were you i would do it

I was told if I had children they should have to be scanned for Brain aneurysm's...also, told my siblings should be checked esp the sister who has migraines....~ Colleen

I am surprised that your doctors did not recommend having them screened...my 2 were checked before I was even out of my coma - they were 14 and 16 at the time. I am quite curious to your doctors reasoning since there is such a history of aneurysms running in families...even though my kids were screened, I still worry everyday...I guess that is just what I do now.

My Neurosurgeon said the same thing - but I feel as frightened as you do. I asked her pediatrician (she's a teenager) if he would order one and he said insurance would never approve it. Errrr. She gets severe headaches as does my youngest son (22yo). So I know how you feel.

I totally agree with the others, they should be screened! What is with these doctors ! Its absolutely absurd for any doctor to say your kids shouldn't be screened, family history is such a huge part of aneurysms -- that much they have figured out -- so it really irritates the senses when a doctor plays the part of the all-knowing King/Queen of aneurysms and how or why they form. Just my opinion, (but its a strong opinion!) Peace, Janet

very, very well put janet

Thank you all for your love, support & concern in your replies…sometimes I feel very lonely in this healing process.
I so appreciate your honesty & help & will start to pursue this for my children.
Anymore advice is so welcomed!!!

Hi everyone, a belated Welcome Madeline, i would , what dr said this? Some drs say to start scans at age 20 which i strongly disagree with since we lost a friend 18 yrs young, i would get a second opinion and call their insurance this will ease your fears, make sure to express your fears to the kids so they know how important this is, keeping you in thoughts and prayers~~~

Hi Madeline! I’m new to BAF myself. My brain aneurysm was Feb of this year. My neuroradiologist recommended my kids (14 and 16) be checked. They had their MRA’s done last month. Now we all know to be checked every several years from now on. Take care

Thank you. Did your insurance cover it?

Thank you
