I had two stents added through the groin a few weeks ago and have been doing well.
For some reason the last few days when I stand up after sitting down I feel a rush of blood to the head and feel dizzy. Has anyone else experienced this? I’ve been doing a little walking and getting out and about. Is it because I have been doing too much or too little?
Hi , I had coils and stents 12 weeks ago, and had a lot of dizzy spells to begin with and only occasionally now if I stand up to quickly.
I find that I could do more but if I do I pay for it so I am carfull how much I do and rest in between activities, if your worried give your surgeons Secretary a ring.
Those dizzy spells are not unusual and especially only after a few weeks. My last surgery was 3 yrs ago now and I'm still having them. I have fallen over with the dizzies on occasions and although I am aware I still stand and move in one motion like I would have normally done prior, only to get dizzy, have a pounding headache and end up on the floor.
My wife was very concerned the first time this occurred and she took me to the dr's the following day. The dr told us I had a positional issue. Laying down I get a pounding HA, which usually takes a couple of minutes to settle. Due to this I hate going to bed as I know the pain that is coming and by the same accord getting up is painful as the blood rushes from my head, the dizzies occur and I often fall backwards luckily onto the bed with a pounding head. The only advice given to me was "do it slowly" and "be aware". I do not think you are worrying too much but I do believe the old saying of "Be aware, not alarmed" is appropriate.
I would get that when my potassium levels were low. It can also be caused by low blood pressure. Maybe a check-up at your internist is in order. Just a few labs and a blood pressure check might show something--or maybe nothing at all. Probably nothing to worry about. You could try increasing your potassium levels via fruits and veggies. I take a daily supplement as well.
I spoke to my nurse and she set me up with a meeting with my surgeon. He said it was most likely the change in dynamics following the surgery i.e. blood thinners and the stents. Makes sense as the blood tests came back normal.
Thanks Bloomsie! I was talking to my partner who thinks that was one reason of many I was taken off blood thinners. I didn’t remember being dizzy. My partner also gets “atypical migraines” which cause dizziness. The neurologist said take magnesium oxide, but it has to be monitored a wee bit, for both of us.
