Ped procedure yesterday

did anyone experience bad headaches after ped procedure

Hi Deb...I have seen posts from other PED people...that said they got headaches after the procedure...not all, but some...What did your Doctor tell you? Are you home already? Gosh please rest and take care of YOU...~ Colleen

Hi Deb M, yep shockers. Found using ice packs the best relief as the pain killers didn't really work very well or for very long. Hope they settle down for you soon. cheers V.

Hi Deb...I am going to share this post so you will receive some more help...wishing you better days ahead...rest ~ Colleen

Terrible headaches for 3 months

Had head pain for a short period of time, but 1 1/2 years later I am symptom free!!! On occasion I may experience some random pain, more annoying than pain.

Bad headaches for 6 months

What’s Pedes procedure

I had a headache after the procedure, but attributed it mostly to the stress, lack of food, poor sleep the night before, and pre-procedure meds. TRy to really rest up today…take a nice nap, and pamper yourself…let us know how you are doing. Of course, if the headache is intense…please call your physician. Now I get headaches sometimes, but do not know if they are from the ped. I felt back to normal within a few days…my biggest contributor was the stress of it all…good luck

Yes, however the headaches subsided after a few months. I am post 3 yrs and rarely get headaches today. Hang in there and hope you feel better soon.

ped refers to a pipeline embolization device. It is inserted through ones femoral artery and threaded up near to the aneurysm. One there is affects the blood flow into the aneurysm, and eventually the aneurysm goes away. I had one placed at the Johns Hopkins hospital in the US and have done great!

I had some fairly severe headaches for 3 to 4 weeks after the procedure and occasional severe headachs up until 3 to 4 months. The most irritating thing is that they would wake me up around 2:00 to 3:00 AM and my head felt like I had been hit with a hammer. My Doctor told me that was probably due to the blood clot in the aneurysm beginning to be absorbed. I have been nearly headache free now for approximately two years and 3 to 4 months. My Doctor is so pleased with my progress that after my last MRA (in July of this year) he told me that we will go two years until the next one unless I have problems. I noticed that Excedrin Extra Strength seemed to tame the headaches much better than any other pain medicine. I had to read the responses to learn what a PED Procedure is. My Doctor simply told me that it was an "Endovascular Coil". Now I have learned something. It is good to learn something new every day.

I thought a ped was different than a coil. If u are on pain meds they can cause rebound headaches. It’s been a year since my pipeline… the pipeline was just fda approved about 3 years ago in the US.

Try sleeping in an upward position to prevent pressure in the head and sinuses. I’m just starting to get headaches again. I used to get them everyday. Are u on any medications?

I had bad headaches in the week after my PED procedure, due to several factors: first of all, I believe headaches in the week after the surgery are common, since you just had a device implanted in your brain. Another factor was that I had a great deal of tension in my neck and back from having my head forced back with a breathing tube for 3-4 hours. Stretching and very gentle massage helped quite a bit. Also, whenever I got a headache, it was basically a signal that my brain was fatigued and that I needed rest. Any vision changes can also give you very bad headaches. Mine got better every day and disappeared after a week. Rest and be sure to keep in close contact with your doctors! Good luck with your recovery. :)

It’s been 2 years with my two PEDs, 24/7 headache. Still seeking help. I was asymptomatic when found. I’m very angry about it still. Sorry, but it’s truth for me. Hope not for anyone else.

I had not heard of a Peds or Pedes procedure until mahoneybirdie defined it for annesherlock123 in the above replies. The definition is exactly what an endovascular coil procedure is/or that is what mine is. If I have the definitions confused then please accept my apology. I certainly did have problems with headaches. I agree that pain meds can cause rebound headaches. I was very fortunate in that the "over the counter" med that I used was effective and I did not have rebound problems.

I have had two, one December 2013 and July 2014 and I honestly cannot say I had any headaches.

I have had dreadful headaches for a year! But they are easing since I started using magnesium, feverfew and co enzyme qc. All the meds the neurologist gave had too many side effects!

Yes, for six weeks after PED used for basilar aneurysm in July 2014 and for a couple of weeks after PED inserted in RICA aneurysm in July 2012.

It's tough to be patient when you've already been patient for so long. But my experience the first time prepped me for the second PED. Give it six weeks to 2 months before you call the doctor -- unless pain gets extreme and then you know what to do.
