Long term prognosis following SAH

Has anyone been told what to expect longterm? life expectancy? Physical abiliteis? etc?????????

My hubby had a clip for sudden onset SAH in 2001 and seemed to make a good recovery but 11 years later he has declining mobility and 3 weeks ago fell all down the stairs having not used the stairlift because i was in bed and he cant operate it himself. His mental state is happy thank goodness but i do worry how he will be in another 10yrs. he is now 64yrs old

I kind of think that too little is know about long term. And there is such variation in people and in the event itself (which artery, which surgery, how many follow up surgeries, etc.) I did read one study that said there was improvement in folks that were checked at 4 years and at 12 1/2 years. Does your husband work out? Besides being good for brain health, exercise helps with mobility and balance. I'm going to a trainer and it seems to help me although I am having episodes of transient global amnesia that might be brought on by overdoing the exercise. Maybe a physical therapist would be a good place to start. I'm 65 and 1 1/2 years post SAH and craniotomy.

Hi Pat...I think it would be good to consult a Neurologist...his problems could have nothing to do with the aneurysm...but going there would be a start to finding what is wrong with your Hubby...God Speed...Colleen

I asked for a referral and was sent to a rehabilitation consultant. As a result John has been attending a neuro group for physio.. exercises and treadmill and recumbrant cycle this is planned to be followed up with a gym membership locally courtesy of the NHS

hi Pat!omgosh is he ok? You have excellent questions that no one seems to want to address. Therapists told me 7 weeks or 7 years to get back to work! They are so vague. Since then I've been plateaued 2 yrs post sah coiling but they gave me exercises to do at home. No one ever told me that plateauing was an option. So im not sure what to think at this point. Apparently therapy doesn't work for me -its been 3.5 yrs now.i'm 55 and worry about the future also- by the time I get better it'll be too late. I honestly don't know what to pray for--to improve, work a few years just to retire???improve for retirement, or just continue struggling and collect disability. Quiet frankly i'm wearing thin, maybe I'd be better off in an assisted living facility -thered be a lot less worries. At any rate I hope things work out for us all. keeping you & yours in our thoughts & prayers!
