Brain surgery was 3 and a half yrs ago. Looking forward to joining
Welcome, Donna. I look forward to hearing more about your story. :)
It was weird. I do a lot of swimming in the summer due to bad back which helps a lot though I was getting a lot of whooshing in my right ear. I went to family doctor twice, twice they cleaned the wax out of my ears but the whooshing continued more frequent and loader. Actually my spouse could put his ear by my right ear and also hear it. Anyway, I decided to go to an ENT Doctor, thank god while I took a weeks vacation. During my visit he diagnosis me with having pulsatile tinnitus and asked if I can come back tomorrow for a hearing test. After hearing testings I was informed that something was going on within the 8th membrane within the middle of brain. Therefore, doctor requested an MRI which was scheduled the next day which showed a suspicion of aneurysm and from there on MRA, CTA at North Shore LIJ. The surgeon there wasn’t to sure of how to go forward cause my aneurysm was in middle left side of brain went up and around like a roller coaster and looped over and connected to another artery. Therefore, he wanted to meet with other surgeons to discuss actions if any should be taken.
I then decided to get a second opinion at NY Presbyterian Hospital. Brain surgeon informed me I was not born with it develop several years ago no history showing how or why it develop and serious. My decision was to go with this doctor I was scheduled to go in on a Tuesday operate craniotomy on Wednesday for them to clip. On Tuesday they went thru my groan up to brain (amazing) to view entire aneurysm. Originally I was informed the cut would be about 8inches in head but after this test I was informed that the aneurysm was even larger than tests showed and they couldn’t operate the next day due to preparing how, and what they were going to do. Making this short i had a subnoid hemorrhage they put me in a self contuse coma had a year of all kinds of therapy doin better couldn’t go back to work its been 3 1/2 yrs now and I miss my life. Don’t get me wrong I’m grateful for being alive as you know it’s a new beginning of life for us. Thanks for listening and I wish you all the best.
There is another discussion up right now asking how members cope who can't go to work anymore. You might like to leave a response there, too, Donna.
Ah Again Welcome to BAF ~ Thank you for sharing your story... ~ Colleen
Sorry you have to go through all this. Curious - I also had the ear thing. For a year I had been able to hear my heart beating in my left ear. I also have what they think is relapsing polychondroitis in that ear, but the heartbeat is not usually a symptom. My PCP finally decided to order a MRI to make sure there wasn't a tumor by the ear and then it was upgraded to MRA because a doctor wanted to rule something else out. That is how they found my annie and thankfully it never ruptured before coiling/splent.
Since the surgery, I have never had the sensation (had to know what to call it rather it's hearing it or just feeling the pressure from the arteries as the heart beats) again. Wonder how many others may have experienced this.
Welcome, Donna and thank you so much for sharing your story with us. I am sure that you can offer a lot of support to newer survivors. I get a whooshing heart beat sound in my ears and it sounds like I am underwater. It is very strange. Nothing has shown in my brain to be causing it. I had clipping surgery in September 2012 and had another one wrapped that was starting to form. I am assuming that you had the surgery to treat your aneurysm. So glad that you are here with us on BAF.
Take Care,
~ Carol
Interesting, I too have had noises in my ear (even others can hear) and when they found my annie and I said well maybe this would help they said no, it has nothing to do with my genetic aneurysm and would not fix it. I had my clipping surgery two weeks ago. Bad day today but otherwise grateful to be alive and doing very well with no deficits or damage done. I had hoped the ringing/weird noises would stop but they have in fact as Ive gotten older become worse.... :(
It gets better just hang in there
I still get the whooshing though not everyday once in awhile. I did have a crainiotomy still recovering and also thankful for being alive. Take care
