Headaches worse after clipping

I have always had a history of headaches and migraines. They had nothing to do with the annie. My headaches and migraines have changed since the surgery. I get more headaches and unfortunately they often turn into migraines. I try to treat the headache once it starts, but it seems immune to Tylenol or Ibuprofen.

Could this be related to the surgery?

I have a routine follow up with my Neurologist this week and I want to discuss this. Any thoughts?

HI Terri...I did not have a clipping, but was coiled...prior to this I had that "bad one"...with Bp so high...then after coiling I developed migraine/headaches...I try to catch with ferocet and lots of ice packs on my neck and back of head...I do see a Neurologist for my headaches and think it is good you discuss what is happening and that the Tylenol and Ibuprofen do not work...keep us posted ~ Thoughts out to you ~ Colleen

Hi Terri,

I am so sorry you are

having these headaches. I rarely had headaches until my coiling 2 1/2 years ago. They have gradually diminished and are now very manageable, especially if I am good about resting when they start coming on. I have found that Excedrin for migraines helps the most. I would be interested in what your neurologist has to say. Meanwhile, rest and be patient (easier said than done!!)

Terri,

Ask your Neurologist for the following as my wife has found them to work best for her post clipping headaches and migraines. Maxalt MLT 10mg (MLT is the melt version and it works very quickly versus the tablets) The generic version is available and is much cheaper over the brand. Be careful however because you can only take 2 doses in a 24 hour period and make sure you take it as soon as you're sure a migraine is due. A complimentary medicine is the generic version of Zofran 4mg. This will help with Naseau. The Zofran may help due to the gut/brain connection (the gut has neurons similar to that in our brain). It will also be important that you try to determine what triggers your headaches and migraines. We have found what triggers my wife's migraines and we are able to replicate the triggers (not that we want to) to confirm our suspecions. If you want some thoughts on the triggers I'll be happy to discuss them with you. Good luck and God Bless!

Sorry to hear you are dealing with pain. I had migraines before surgery and still. I do also have head pain that lingers even 10yrs after clipping – it’s MUCH better than it was but it just remains a sensitive area. Te helped as did exercise, lots of ideas from my neurologist etc. it took me a few doctors to find one who was a headache expert and that helped. Might look into whether any headache centers near you?

My headaches have changed too; and I think Ed has the right idea when he speaks of triggers. Perhaps this is why they are different; the cause is different? I'm very lucky that over the counter meds help me at onset, but if I don't get them in my system quickly, it can turn into a debilitating and scary headache. If your neurologist can't seem to get it right for you, try one who specializes in headaches. My surgeon is great; but with the "after care" he seems to be lacking experience or knowledge.

It is Almost a year since my aneurysm was clipped. I have always suffered with migraines, but since the clipping my migraines are more intense and frequent. I’ve tried several meds but they either don’t work or have terrible side effects.
I’m waiting to be approved for Botox treatment hoping that will help. I’ve also been experiencing joint pain and tremor on face arms and legs. I went to rheumatologist and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

After my clipping I was experiencing chronic daily headaches and frequent migraines. I started taking 75 mg Butterbur Extract, twice a day and the chronic headaches all but dissappeared and the migraines are less frequent. You can get the Butterbur at the health food stores or through online sites like Swansons Vitamins (way cheaper). Be sure to get it without any pyrrolizidine alkaloids. Wishing you the best.

My headaches are more pressure related but neurologist said they were not from aneurysms or clipping. Monitor blood pressure is essential to control them
Mine . Originated from two bulging discs in neck, looking at them is how they found and tested for both Annie’s. Also check eyes with neurologist ophthalmologists as you may be dealing with undiagnosed glaucoma. I was found to have that also, irregular pressure in eyes. Iridotomies were done for both and that helped. Worsening headache needs to be addressed quickly. …please investigate this!

God bless all of you with complete successful healings…
