I have an unruptured aneurysm. Dr. would like to do surgery. I don't want to have surgery. I would like a 2nd opinion. Does anyone have any suggestions. I'm in the West Palm Beach area, and I would drive a couple of hours to a larger city.
Hi there,
Yeah its never an easy thing to have to go with whatever one surgeon says to do, and getting a 2nd opinion is always beneficial I think..Is there a reason he said that open surgery (clipping) was the way to go? Are you hoping for coiling instead? (or another route)?
I ask this only due to the fact that I've undergone both procedures, and I honestly would go with another clipping if ever I have to make that choice again ( Lets hope I don't need to of course) ! I find that clipping is the more permanent fix, and is consideerd the Gold Standard in treating aneurysms. My coils did compact after having them for several years, and I sure wasn't pleased with that interruption in my life at the time...I then was able to elect the clipping procedure instead of having more coils added, and for me it was the best decision I feel i've ever made.
I know its not an easy decision, but getting that 2nd opinion is certainly something you should get. Best of luck to you, I wish I could recemmend a place for you to go , but have no clue being that i'm in California. Hopefully other members will be able to direct you , Peace to you,
Janet
I went to Shands in Gainsville, Florida...my Neurosurgeon is no longer there, so I cannot make a recommendation. Here at BAF we have a Medical Advisory Board usually representing every area in the United States...perhaps one is close to your area...click below for the list...Good Luck...~ Colleen
