Coiling and Hair Loss

I had my second coiling done 5 weeks ago. My hair has been falling out in clumps. So far, it’s only on one side of my head, but the spot of missing hair keeps getting bigger and bigger. This did NOT happen to me the first time around. I’m not sure why it’s happening this time. Right now, I can hide the spot because it is in the middle of the back of my head. How long will the hair continue to fall out? Will it be contained to just the one spot or will I get more and bigger areas of hair loss? At this rate, I’m going to need to buy a wig!! I know its just hair and it will hopefully grow back, but I feel like I’ve already been through so much.

HI ... and sorry about losing the hair... My hair after I was coiled got thinner...lost it all over...but no bald spots...after almost 5 months since coiling...my hair is getting thicker and healthier...You may want to mention to your Doctor...maybe he/she can suggest something that will help you out...(ie., vitamins, etc.,)...

Please keep us posted...Cyber ~ Hugs Colleen

Hello, I also had an issue with hair loss after coiling procedure. I was told by multiple health care nurses, and physicians (I work with many) that it is due to first the radiation in the dye, and second being under anesthesia. Both can cause hair loss. So I’ve been using the vitamin Biotin for 6 months now, and my hair has grown back a lot. I had a few bald spots etc and they’ve been growing back quickly. My friend who is a hair dresser and had breast cancer told me about Biotin. It works well, it’s super cheap and available everywhere (GNC, Vitamin Shoppe etc), and it’s natural. Hope this helps!

Amy... esp...thought of you recently by face; not name...memory is of your being so young and having four children... ???

If I recall correctly, the BAF site addresses hair loss from angios...Ask your neuros about the radiation; it is difficult to locate data on the 'net. It is easy to find on the other; i.e. CTs, MRs, x-rays...

My drain was clogged before I even noticed hair loss...had the drain cleaned; a friend found a mesh drain cover at a home store that really helped/helps...

As Alicia noted Biotin, my dermatologist recommended Biotin for my hair and nails...the bottle does note "keep your licensed health care practitoner informed"... please do that and ask about the angio radiation, and anesthesia, too. Thanks to Alicia for info on anesthesia...

Best wishes for a Happy Easter...and great recovery...

Thank you so much. I will definitely check into that. Do you remember how long it took for your hair to STOP falling out? I thought mine was getting better, but it seems like I noticed it coming out more again yesterday. I have really thick hair. I was hoping I would stop losing it soon. I can hide the bald spots… right now!

Yes, that’s me. I have days that have feel good and days with a lot of headaches and exhaustion. I’m trying to keep up with my kids the best that I can. Thanks for the info. I hope it stops falling out soon!

Amy, please be sure to get your rest when fatigued...assume you have help from hubby to family / friends...and/or hiring a nanny...Hope they will encourage /train your darlings on what to plan for you...your next fun functions...Please take care of yourself...so you can keep up with your kids for a long time...rest...to have the energY to look forward to your next activities. Do not worry too much about your hair....it will grow back...perhaps not in the same manner you know....imagine a new image...

Hugs to you all,

Pat
