Anyone stopped their seizure melds against medical advice?

I think my seizure melds are causing my depression among other side effects. I’m thinking of just stopping them even though my doctors advise against it.
Anyone get off the seizure melds and how do you feel?

Please do not stop any medication without notifying your doctor! I couldn’t stress this enough. Some medicines can have serious consequences if stopped cold turkey. Yes some medication can have depression as a side effect. Heck, what life throws at us can have depression as a side effect. May I suggest contacting a therapist in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) if you’re lucky, you’ll find one with a Neuro background or specialized training. In my experience it helps the doctors to have someone who speaks their language in decreasing, increasing or changing medication.

Chris, I understand that it is tempting. I have known a good few members who decided to go off their seizure meds. You know what happened next? A grand mal. There are a number of choices for anticonvulsants. If your current med is causing problems, please work with your doctor to find another med that works better for you.

Please don't stop taking your Seizure meds without your Doc Approved..I've done it once and the only thing will happen your gonna get more Seizures when you Don't expect and more Months in the Hospital...there's other MEDS FOR SEIZURES JUST TALK TO YOUR DOC FIRST...

I have been taking carbamazepine since the early 80s. I recently reduced the dosage, after talking to my GP and neurologist, because it is a powerful anti-seizure drug and the doctors are afraid to reduce it after my clipping. They finally agreed to it, so I now take 400mg a day instead of 600mgs. I have not noticed any change, except I seem to have balance problems that I didn’t have previously. My aneurysm ruptured during surgery. It was located on the middle cerebral artery and was diagnosed as giant.

I turned into a super bitch when the anti seizure meds built up in my system. My husband would notice and it became an “either you call the doc or I will!” situation. If you feel a med is not doing good with you, please simply call the doc. It’s no fuss, there are so many new meds on the market, one is bound to work for you! It’s just a matter of finding the right one. Or if you want to stop, the doc will tell you how to do so safely. Especially if you are on other medications.
