My Mother in law had a massive brain aneurysm above steam in the middle of her brain November 4th of 2011. She is healing well, aside from her vison. since the aneurysm she has not been able to open her eye lids we have to tape one open at a time or her vision is blurred and double. Doctors advise right eye might have damage. I am wondering if anyone one has had similar problems and if any resolution are available. We are still waiting for a specialist. Any recomendations are welcome, thanks for taking the time to read our story we would love to hear from you!
Hi Penny!not sure where my anuerysm was, it was 3 yrs ago and i still can't see out of my left side of both eyes so i dont drive- the therapists discovered it & said it might be restored, might not. Sure hope the specialist can help! i'm wondering if the therapists could help? one told me once he had exercises for my numb left side of face that they use for stroke victums, sometimes i cant tell if left eye is open or shut(when its dark). I'll keep her in my thoughts & prayers!!
Penny, welcome and expect you will have lots of response...
Many of us have varying levels of vision damage...I had a mini-droopy eyelid; massive loss of muscle control of my pupil and more... can share more later...
Did the doctors talk with you all about which of the cranial nerve(s) is/are involved and the potentials of reconstruction and/or therapies? is it one of the vision-related nerves or the facial nerve or?
Which specialist are you waiting for; i.e a neuro-ophthalmalogist or?
Prayers for good diagnoses and recommended corrections...and,
a warm and happy Thanksgiving...
Pat
Hi Penny,
I had an aneurysm to the third cranial nerve in 1998. The aneurysm was clipped, however I had complete double vision for at least 4 months with both eyes open, and I had a heck of a time opening my left eyelid for months...it did heal though, my vision came back and like I said, a good four months went by after the clipping before I could finally see well enough to drive, etc. My vision was about the same (not great, i'm very nearsided), but not any worse then what it had been pre-anuerysm. A patch over the affected eye helped to some degree, but I didn't use a patch on a regular basis, just "squinted" a lot. Time...that was the answer in my case.
Prayers to your mother-in-law, Janet
