Recovery

Hey Teresa,

Excellent explanation ! Never once did the doctor think mine had anything to do with the rupture , and I finally figured it must've been from when the annie had ruptured and I hit the terrazzo flooring at work--my only semi-viable explanation since the doctors had no idea--and it wasn't until I happened upon this website that i found a few others who'd gone thru the same kind of pain after their ruptures....I remember dancing back and forth on my feet while I washed the dinner dishes, I couldn't stand still due to so much pain, and OMG, sitting in the car? hell no ! no way could I handle doing that for any length of time. I went to a chiropractor, had 2 different MRI's done of the lower back, went to physical therapy for the pain--nothing worked. The only positive thing that happened overall due to the rupture itself was I'd lost 30 pounds and managed to keep it off that 1st year effortlessly--only because I was in too much pain to think about eating ! lol, (what a way to diet !) Take care, Janet

hello Kelly

I only visit BSF from time to time, we are from the UK as well , and found BAF a life line everyone very friendly and helpful. Sue my wife had her ruptured in August 2011 she was 58 seems ages ago now.

She often complains of joint pain and electric shock pain in her head, but she does take statins and I think this can be one of the side affects wondered if you are taking any medication that could be causing these pains. Also Sue has a second Aneurysm which is being watched and she had an angiogram last year and hers is stable also and we don't need to go back for three years now, just make sure you listen to your body don't rush your recovery rest when you fill you need to. Best Wishes John&Sue

My surgery was 02/25/14. My lower back and tailbone hurt very badly. None of the medical professionals know why. My boyfriend, a nurse, thinks perhaps it’s because I bled out twice from the femoral artery and blood has pooled in that area.

Teresa the weekend i was very tearful. one day i feel like im getting better and then the next im laid up in pain. i realise its all going to take time and is a shock to the system but it wasn’t till the weekend when the shock has finally gone its hit me how serious this could of been and i would of left my children without a mum :(.
john im not on any med apart from my own pain killers not even seen a professional since coming out of hospital but due to on April 2nd.
Cindy i think its defiantly something to do with the blood that’s in there. wonder if its all gone by now? i haven’t been given much info at all. Teresa is right we have all learnt more from each other than the professionals.

Hello, all. Kelly, it took alittle while for me to realize what a close call I had. Seems like about a month afterwards, I was dusting my picture frames of my family. I thought, Wow! I could have died and could be just a memory to my family IF…so many things could have gone wrong with the rupture, the bleed, transport to the hospital, in intensive care, on and on. My sister tells me, I survived for a reason. I am Christian, but the proverb (I think from Buddha) says: “when the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” Guess I will find out what my new life purpose is, sometime.
Even now, I have good and not so good days emotionally. Sometimes, I will be with my son or daughter and think; ya know, under slightly different circumstances, I would not be here for this moment. That moment happened a few weeks ago when my daughter was looking at bridal gowns. So thankful I am here and she has her mom. =)

There should be a neuro nurse at your hospital that you can contact if you have any worries. Also the Headway books are good they may reassure you and put your mind at rest. We know from past experience that once you leave hospital follow up help is a bit poor you have to keep on pestering the doctor otherwise you won't be heard.

I am now one month out. Seems like yesterday. The tailbone pain is almost gone. Long trips in the car to doctor tend to make it flare up, but not unbearably anymore. I typically take my walker in to the doctor waiting room, and lean forward onto it while sitting in the chair. This helps take the pressure off of my tailbone. I also found out that my PCP had an aneurysm previously, so he is very understanding. He agrees that the cause is blood draining from the brain and from the procedures. Hope you are feeling better!

Kelly...ask your doc about the position you were maintained in...i.e. tied-to-the-table...

Also ask if you had lumbar puncture (spinal tap) and/or any "collisions" while in any rehab...i.e. if you were being taught / coached in your first steps...and, the balance/coordination...

We all have similarities...including the hours in the diagnostic and procedures time frames...from 1-3-5 hours...in the specific "tied-to-table" position...

Prayers you talk w/your neuro-specialists and get some direction to help relieve severe pain...
