Pregnancy after Clipping

I had a clipping of an unruptured aneurysm this past August (5 months post op!). I am 25 years old and am hoping someone can give me some information or personal experience on having children after an aneurysm clipping. I get so much anxiety thinking about the what ifs and questioning whether or not I will be able to have children of my own at any point. My surgeon is very nonchalant about any questions I have and just tells me to live my life normally. I have also asked my OBGYN and she is not familiar with this situation but said if I do become pregnant she would likely refer me to a high risk specialist who has dealt with my condition previously.

If anyone has had children post aneurysm clipping and can help me out with questions such as how long after the clipping did you become pregnant, were there any specific precautions taken throughout the pregnancy, was a C-section required, etc. I would greatly appreciate it!

Hi, am only 3 months post op,(clipping of a raptured aneurysm).I thank God came out unscathed, with my fatigue already gone, i hopefully plan to conceive veeery soon. My neurosurgeon has given me a go ahead and said i can have a normal delivery, i have also read many success stories of women who have gone ahead to have a normal delivery, so just like your doc,..live your life normally

Thank you so much for your response! I am trying my best to live as normal as possible but my anxiety gets the best of me at times after this whole ordeal. Please keep me updated on your journey if you do conceive at any time in the near future.

Cait390, have you joined the Pregnancy group or have you done a search on this site? Just type in the word pregnancy, it will bring up a lot. You may find a lot of answers there! Also I know in the time I’ve been a member, there’s been several who have had children either post procedure. You may find some inspiration for questions to your doctors. Good luck!

You should contact Kit34 on this site. I think she could answer several questions for you!

Hi Cait,

I had the clipping surgery in Oct 2014 and just gave birth a week ago to a healthy baby girl. It is possible! I had a great pregnancy with no complications. I chose to give birth by c section as my doctor didn’t want me to push (alternative was forceps which I didn’t want doe the baby).
I’ll post my full experience soon. Just adjusting to life with a newborn first! Please contact me if you have any specific questions.

Congratulations Kit! So HAPPY for you!!!

Congrats Kit! Hope you are doing fine…Sleep will come again in a few months, meantime, take naps as able lol

Hi Cait390,

I am 38 years of age and also nearing being 6 months pregnant. had a ruptured aneurysm 2.5 weeks ago. I had no idea what an aneurysm was or that I had one before that scary moment. I had the coiling procedure done and all seems to be going well, still recovering of course.

I can't really help you out with your question yet, but I will be able to tell you in a few months :)

I have been referred to the high risk team of our city's maternity hospital. I am eagerly awaiting an appointment with them so we can discuss our options and a new birth plan. It's all a bit nerve racking at the moment.

Hi Kit,

Congratulations on your daughter! It is so reassuring knowing that is possible to have a healthy pregnancy after the clipping. I am looking forward to reading about your full experience and wish you the best with your new bundle of joy! I will be contacting you soon on specifics :)

Thank you for your reply, Denise. That is so scary and you are so blessed to have had a good outcome from the rupture. I would love to hear about how the remainder of your pregnancy goes and of any specific precautions the high risk team recommends. Hang in there, I'm sure it will all be okay!
