My Mom collapsed on December 8 from a massive brain aneurysm. She was transported to a special hospital later but suffered a heart attack en route. She underwent a successful coiling procedure but her heart did not recover and she passed away on December 10, two weeks before Christmas. I encourage early screening and detection, as this could have been caught last summer when we took her for a CAT-Scan and MRA, but she backed out from clostrophobia. We never rescheduled it. She also smoked. I encourage you to find a way to get anyone you know who smokes to quit by getting on a patch. I don't smoke, but can attest that there are victims of smoking, like us, who watch others die needlessly from this horrific addiction. When I returned from the hospital I received a Christmas Card my Mom mailed before she collapsed. My brother has since had a dream wherein he spoke to her and she said that she is in heaven, around 30, and happy, and that she was tired of sitting around and doing cross word puzzles. When we left to go back to our hotel room the night she passed, she was stable. I truly believe she left us when we were gone so we wouldn't see her pass away. She did not like hospitals, nursing homes or rehabilitation. She was two months shy of her 81 birthday. I can also tell you her post-op life would have been horrible, and riddled with strokes, loss of movement, and a poor condition for a long time. Fewer that 5% of people who undergo these procedures come out with no changes. She is in a better place now, although we wish she were still with us. She was a wonderful mom, wife, sister and grandmother of 4. I encourage you to seek early testing, stop smoking, and most of all--believe and trust in God, who has helped us get through this horrible event. There is a God and he is the strength that will help us survive this. Below is a picture of her singing carols with the grand children the night before she collapsed. I love and miss my Mom more than anything in the world and would give everything to see her again.
