Just Found Out - Unruptured 2mm AComm

Hi there. My name is Susan and I live in Atlanta. I had a couple of thunderclap headaches and called my GP who recommended a Neurologist. Had an MRI and then a CTA confirmed that indeed there is a 2mm Aneurysm on my Anterior Communicating Artery. I have a consultation at Emory this Wed., the day before my birthday. I am terrified almost every moment of rupture. Life is so sweet and now I guess I should just live like I'm dying, huh?

Enough self-pity. I am weighing the coiling method versus clipping and everything I have read is directing me toward the more invasive clipping. Is there anyone out there with a case simliar to mine. Anything you can share?

God Bless and many thanks,

Susan

Hi Susan, My name is Renee I had a unruptured aneuysum found back On Sept 30, 2011 on Nov 8, 2011 I had the clipping surgery done.... I returned to work after 2 weeks... mine was 5mm I am exteremly lucky that they found it and I went for the surgery... As my doctor said its like going to the dentist they have such precision today in these surgerys I did not think it was like going to the dentist LOL anyway... Be so Thank ful that they found it and you can do something about it... before it ruptures.... Hang in there... mine was in the same place as yours... and at first my insurance would not cover the surgery... so I had to wait longer... I know you think its gonna rupture but you found it first for a reason so that you have a great life ahead...

Oh! Thank you so much for your reply Renee. So glad to hear you are o.k.

How was recovery from the incision? Little freaked out by that.

I Loved wearing wigs ... for a while ... and now my hair is back they only shaved a line where they cut.. but still love the wigs... Recovery was ok not as bad as you think becasue its unruptured.

After 2 days I was walking around like nothing... i was lucky...

you will be too!

Hearing your story has really given me hope Renee. Thank you so much

Hey there Jo. Aren't you a sweetheart. I am so glad I discovered this site and this community. Already feeling lots more hopeful. Take care and know that you put a little hope in someone's heart today

Best,

Susan

Welcome, I had clipping done at Emory 10 yrs. ago. Dan Barrow did my surgery. I chose clipping over coiling, mainly because coiling was fairly new. You will know in your heart what you need to do . Yours is small so they may want to watch it. You will love Emory. They are so wonderful and lucky for you to live in Atlanta near such an awesome hospital. My brother lives in Woodstock. Good luck, you have come to the right place for questions and support. Keep us posted. You will be fine. Hang in there and try not to worry. Robyn

Hi Susan and Welcome to BAF ~

Many have done so good at Emory...keep us posted...it is good that you are able to weigh both methods...

This is a long journey...that can be a "roller coaster" of emotions, you will learn patience and an appreciation of "one day at a time..."...Cyber~thoughts your way ~ Colleen

Hello Susan, hope you're well.

When you visit the Doc on Wednesday, he will tell you if you should have clipping or coiling. Depending on the annie, the position, the shape ect, they will tell you which procedure is best to treat it.

Don't worry too much we all get scared.

Keep us posted

God Bless

Hi, Susan. Please do keep us posted. I have a 2 mm acom that my doc is just monitoring. In fact, I have a 6 month follow up on Wednesday. I experienced a ruptured ICA aneurysm with subarachnoid hemorrhage in April of this year. Had a coiling procedure. Still having headaches, but doing OK.

Thank you for writing to me Nikki. I am so grateful for this forum and for people like you who take the time to send comforting words. I hope you are doing well.

Susan

Hi Susan!

Check out the BAF Website because they have tons of great information including a breakdown of all the different procedures available now. http://www.bafound.org/treatment-options Look along the left side for the menu of all the different options. What Nikki said is true, they will tell you what is the best option and why, but don't be afraid to bring up the alternate options and ask about them too. There are a few less invasive options other than just coiling now, in particular the PED, which of course I don't know if they'd be able to use in your situation, and also liquid. Also the What to Ask the Doctor and the FAQ are both extremely insightful. Mine was unruptured as well. Don't be afraid to ask the group anything, everyone here is amazingly helpful.

Happy Birthday! =) Hope it's a great one!
