I had a second flow diverter (PED) inserted in July 2017 and just went back for a follow up to learn that I have artery tissue thickening/overgrowth around the stents. Consequently, I have to remain on the full dose of Plavix and Aspirin until I get another angiogram in June 2018 because a clot could form around the Intimal Hyperplasia area.
Has anyone else experienced the Intimal Hyperplasia? Did it resolve and when?
I too had intimal hyperplasia. It is a long story. I have a stent in the right ICA and one in the Left ICA. The scarring has gotten worse over a 1.5 year span, I had a Angio 3-15-19 and the distal end of the stents are 90 percent closed in the left and 100 percent in the right. The scarring has spread beyond the stented segments to the MCA, ACA on both sides. Last year was not as bad and it was recommended I have a cerebral bypass from one doctor and then Mayo recommended not doing the bypass. So I waited one year to do a follow up angio and it does not look good. I have developed good collateral flow and remain on Plavix, and 4 baby aspirin. I had no brain disease prior to the 2 stents and 4 aneurysms coiled. I firmly believe my body is rejecting the stents. I have had 3 strokes shortly after the last coiling in March 2017 they happened when they had me stop the Plavix, back then the intimal hyperplasia was only 30 percent. I 100 percent in RICA, RMCA and ACA is tiny bit opened, the left ICA 90%, Left MCA 70%, Left ACA 70 blocked. These moyamoya vessels developed on the right that are supplying blood to the frontal lobe. My posterior arteries are suplling blood to the back. I am at a loss. There is not a lot of information given to the patients on the potential for this to happen. Not a lot of research done and the manufactures and doctors know this is a potential problem. I just want to see where you are at and if you continue to have problems.
Thanks

las15, welcome and thanks for posting! I hope you keep us updated on all you are experiencing, Iām sure it will help others. It is really interesting how the brain can do what it can do, simply amazing!
