Good morning everyone, just wondered if anyone could give me the heads up on this, I know I have to take this medication and Aspirin 4 days before my surgery but I have no idea how long after I may need to take it, have a good day everyone xxx
Gill,...
Did I misinterpret your prior explanation of plavix four days before your treatment? I thought I read that you were having a blood test before and after... before going into treatment... Somehow I thought you meant there was a specific time difference than the four days right before treatment...for all I know you may have had a vacation planned between them!
The reason I think this is important is because of reactions we can have from plavix...and, I made up a fantasy that your four-days prior to treatment was to test your tolerance to plavix... not just thin your blood...
I had of record, only one time of plavix; for 8 weeks, which were cut short because of my reactions. Worse, I found in my records that a large volume of plavix was also administered during that f/up angio i/c/w all the other anesthetic drugs...
So, my basic question is, did you already have one four-day trial of plavix; or, was that four days the same as these four days right before your angio?
Happy Easter...
Hi Gil...I was told I must take 325mg of aspirin for the rest of my life...the plavix I took for 2 weeks before my surgery and then I was suppose to be on for another 6 months after coiling, however, I ended up with some bleeding problems so they took me off after surgery...I did get heparin shots in ICU for about 7 days...~
Colleen
Hi Pat, you got it right I had a trial run a few weeks ago tolerance was okay, but I just wondered after the operation how long will I have to stay on Plavix, just curious really, thanks for your quick reply
Many thanks for this Colleen have read about a few people who have had problems with this drug, fingers crossed I guess, take care of you xxx
Hi Gill--
I go in for stent & coil on April 23. I go in tomorrow for pre-surgery tests. I start plavix on Wed, 4/18. On that day I will take 4 plavix pills (one in the am, one at noon, one at dinner and one at bed) plus a 325 mg aspirin. Then on Thurs, I will go to one plavix and one 325 mg aspirin. I was told after the surgery, I will be on plavix for approx 3 months and 325 mg aspirin the rest of my life. When is your surgery? I think me, you, Paula and Jimmy all have surgery around the same time (???).
I am unable to take aspirin since it upsets my stomach. So I am on Plavix for the rest of my life. I don't have any side effects from it at all.
i had to take it 7 days prior only for re- coiling - if i recall correctly but im also taking coumadin-i guess everyone is different -keep us posted & good luck with the operation-our prayers are with u & yours
Hi Gill, I took both aspirin and plavix for 5 months after surgery.
I think this is the normal routine in Europe.
Good luck and keep us posted.
Giovanni
Thank you, thank you...my interpretaion and memory is questionable and I do fret about it at times!
I have not been able to get any response from anyone in the USA on getting a trial run before getting directly on plavix...I will pull up my records (squalor) and find the response from the drug company on plavix...
Have a Happy Day....
Colleen, this is so surprising; I had to make a choice over easy bleed/bruise (if accident or injury) or a clot in my brain... a complex decision. It amazes me you were given hep vs plavix... because they both are anti-coag...or was it due to pill format or injection?
This should be interesting for you...mine, after hep and other toxic drugs during anesthesia, protamine was admin'd to stop the anti-coag...towards end of anesthesia...
Hi Lisa, thank you for replying, I was orginally told that I would have to wait until 22nd May then the hospital rang and said I could go in on Friday 13th (I am not superstitious) but asked if I could defer this as my brother is getting married on the Saturday she said she thought it might be about another week so who knows about surgery date really.... this seems like an awful lot of Plavix to take in one day I hope it all works out for you and the surgery is a success, looks like a lot of us scheduled for surgery around the same time, good luck to us all, have a good day xxxxxx
Hi Buffee, thank you for your reply, I have heard there are a lot of people who are intollerant of Aspirin and it is good to hear you have no side effects from Plavix, have a good day xxxx
Thanks Ronald, I guess as you say everyone is different as the replies posted here seem to imply, thank you for your response and good wishes, have a good day xxx
Thanks Giovanni, I did wonder if the rules were different in Europe though there isn't much information on this in the UK, I guess it will probably all be down to how your blood tests are, thanks again have a good day, Jill xxx
Thanks for replying Lynne, it is good to hear you had no problems with the Plavix, I get really nervous about taking medication that has a long list of side effects and especially those that seem to be quite serious so hearing about people who have had no ill effects is good, again many thanks and have a good day Jill xxx
