I have a hole in the top of my head i guess where my scalp shrank before they put my flap back. So now i have to have another surgery to fix this. Has anyone else had this happen? # can’t wait to reallystarthealing!
doesn't sound right to me hun.

I have a few intentions across the front of my scalp where sutures were placed but nothing requiring surgery…
Part of my left side of skull was taken out and not replaced so I have people can see that my scalp has an indentation… The doctor said I could fill it with something similar to botox but I decided against it… I have gotten used to my scalp the way it is… Good luck on surgery!
Dear Tessa,
From the time of my surgery until now (16 years) I have been aware of what feels like a drill hole in my head. No one thinks this is serious, including my wife (a retired OR nurse) or my doctor. So it’s something my fingertips have to play with. I assume your hole is more serious, so you are right to have it looked after.

I have a small hole where the bones were screwed together I was told that will lessen as the bone will regenerate.
I have an indentation and my neurosurgeon said he could fix it with another surgery, but it would just be cosmetic in nature, so I decided against it. I didn’t want an unnecessary surgery and all the shaving and healing it would have required. I notice the dent, but I have a lot of hair and don’t think it is that noticeable to others…if it is, I guess it’s my battle scar, but so far just hair dressers notice it.
I have one in the middle of my forehead the others are covered with hair well I just turned 50 yesterday so I geuss I don’t care anymore I am glad I am alive I thank god everyday
I had an acrylic plate put in my head in 1972 as I got a staph infection in the hospital. So far, so good. It had to be removed in 1993 to clip annie #2 and #3 and it went back in OK. So far, so good. The biggest thing I notice is it does not warm up very well so I wear a hat a lot in the winter --outside only. I hope this helps. It's better than a hole in your head.
I have a hole in my head too! I think it’s from where they put the drain, not really sure? All I know is when I forget something or do something a little off (which is pretty much daily since my rupture) when someone asks me if o have a hole in my head usually sarcastically I say rather proudly as a matter of fact yes I do! Be proud of your battle scars! God has given you another chance. YOU ARE ALIVE!
My daughter has a depression on the edge of the flap that would be noticeable if the hair wasn’t covering it. The last thing she would want is another surgery to fix this…I wonder if they can inject a filler of some sort rather than opening you up again…
I have four holes, one on my left forehead. Skull bone was removed. Holes have been there for 46 years. I wear my hair to cover the forehead hole. The neurosurgeon said they would have put a plastic button to cover the forehead hole, but I was pregnant at the time and that increased the danger of infection. When my holes were drilled, they were called Burr holes, named after the neurosurgeon who devised them.
I have a hole in my skull about the size of a 20c piece (or an American quarter) the surgeon said they prefer to leave it, it may close itself over a long time, ten years or so, or they could patch it if I wanted. I need more surgery for another aneurysm that they're watching, so I figure it can wait until that one is fixed. I can feel it, but my hair covers it and I'm careful not to walk into things :)
I had a clipping in 1982, and a post-op haemorrhage, requiring a second operation. A couple of months later they found I had an infected bone flap. The bone flap was removed and left me with a hole 4 inches across and 2 inches deep on the right side of my head. I was stuck with that for 12 months to make sure that the infection was gone – thankfully I had hair back then! I then got a methacrylate plate put in. There are a few gaps around the plate, and the tissue has formed adhesions. This causes massive headaches as any muscle tension tugs on the adhesions.
I have a small permanent hole in the top of my head where the tube was inserted, the skin has grown over it, of course, but there is a dip the size of a fingertip, I have to warn hairdressers about it, and also about the bump on my head caused by the shunt for my hydrocephalus. Is that the kind of thing you mean?
Sally
Sally. No not really. It’s an actual hole. U can see the metal used to hold the skull together. It seems to get worse when I eat.I guess from my scalp moving when I chew. Sounds more like what Johnathan Vincent is talking about.
Ok so the hole was from a staph infection! Love hospitals!!! They went in and removed my bone flap again. Just got a custom cat scan so they can make a.piece to go back in place of my bone flap. Now another surgery#4, hopefully it won’t reject! Fingers crossed.
good luck Tessa,
went through the whole thing in 1972. Bone flap out for 2 months to clear up in the infection, acrylic plate wired in and plate has not been a problem for 42 years. I wish you well and speedy healing.
