Having son's scanned due to family history

I am 3 months post op from unruptured clipping of 10mm MRA and doing pretty well. I have a 22 year old son who just had a MRA scan done and the result was negative. Should he have this done again, like every 5 years or so? Since he doesn't have one now can he get one in the future? Mine was found incidentally at age 56 and it was already 10mm.

Good question lferris59. I don’t know the answer. I do know that my Neurosurgeon asked that we notify family members and have them tell their doctors. My niece who suffers from migraines was told that the next time she has problems, they will do an MRA. The doctor didn’t see a need to do one at that time for her. Another niece was given an MRA after refusing a ct, and she was told that she might want to have one every ten years or so. They reside in different states.

I just thought of something, have you checked the BAF website for their recommendations?

I did find this
http://stroke.ahajournals.org/content/34/12/2788.full.pdf it says every five years

And you might send an email to the fia study. Here’s their link
http://www.fiastudy.org/index.html

I saw at the fia, they had umdnj as one of the research universities but it appears they closed their doors, so maybe Rutgers took it on, I can’t tell by the newsletters.

God luck!

Hi, I had a 9.3 unruptured clipped back in 2014 and mine was also found incidentally. I was told my 22 year old daughter did not need to get checked. I was 55 when mine was found so it does make you wonder.

I also am not scheduled for any type of follow up for 5 years which is a little unnerving. My Dr. is sending me for another cat scan as I still have the dizzy symptoms that started it all.

Fun Stuff, Not...

Thanks Moltroub. I was not able to open the link with the FIA study. I googled it and was not able to find anything about it or a newsletter. I looked on UMDNJ (which happens to be about 1 mile away from me!) and couldn't find anything there. Any other suggestions?

May I ask how you are doing now Brenda? And where was your annie? Mine was right MCA. I still have swelling, facial paralysis on forehead, eyelid droop and can't open jaw very wide but hoping that it all goes away since I am only 3 months post op. Did you have a 6 month check up angiogram after your clipping?
