Coiling

I am having an aneurism coiling done on fri. Jan 11th . Would like to know what to expect
And what effects I will have after. I am really nervous about this procedure
It is behind my right eye. . Any one who experienced any problems

I had coiling for a ruptured and an unruptured aneurysm this past February. I was told that I had some bad headaches at first. I was not in a coma but I have no recollection of the first 20 days after my rupture. Since March though I have been very fortunate and have not had any headaches to speak of. Nothing that some Tylenol couldn’t fix. Good thoughts and prayers headed your way.

hello sue, At least this sounds like you have this planned so thats a good thing. I had my aneurysm coiled but after it ruptured so things were very different. Don't remember three weeks later!!! I d.o have headaches but nothing thats unbearable. I also have a vp shunt due to pressure build up. I think the fact that you have everything under control will make a big difference. much luck to u. will keep in prayers. donna w

Hi Sue, I had my second coiling operation with stent in April 2012 and I too am doing well, like Jo my only problem is headaches which are controlled by over the counter meds, wishing you all the best for Friday and I will pray for a successful outcome, Jill xxx

Glad you found us ~ I am not sure any of us can be sure of your side effects...because everyone is so different...I do know that my surgeon told me that I many have bad headaches for about 6 months after coiling...which I had them for around 2 to 3 months...and then they tapered up to about every other week...I can tell you ... it is a bit of an emotional roller coaster...and noise and crowds may bother you for sometime...will keep you in my prayers ~ Colleen

Hello, Sue. I know the thought is so scary, but it is truly amazing what they can do. I was coiled after my bleeding annie sent me to the hospital so my scenario was different. Mine is located behind my right eye too- on my ophthalmic artery. Mine is wide necked, so they needed to use a balloon in the end to push mine into position, but it went great. My side effects weren't really much different from the angiogram I had two days prior. I experienced visual auras that would come periodically and eventually went away after a month or so. Scared me at first at the hospital but were harmless. In fact, I actually had a pretty big headache and nausea after my 1st angio, but not with my coiling. That part went very smoothly for me. I was in SICU for about 7 days after, but this was to monitor for vasospasms since my annie had already been bleeding when it was discovered. I rarely have headaches, but did have some cramping sensation every now and again on that side of my head in the few months after, near my temple. I also had some numbness persist in my right front neck and face for a few months after; best they could figure, it was just from being in that artery and against a nerve. My neck still gets numb sometimes when I exercise, but they said nothing to be alarmed over. Good luck!! You're in great hands! Please let us know how it goes.
