Blindness from subarachnoid hemmorage grade 4

Does anyone have information on prognosis for blindness occurring after aneurysm? Thank you for and help! The aneurysm occurred march 15th.

After my subarachnoid hemmorage I lost sight in both of my eyes. The dr went in a got the blood from behind my eyes. I could see fine for a while, then I developed cataracts in both. Had cataract surgery. Now can see pretty good except for reading. Still have to have reading glasses but I had to have them before the ruptured aneurysm. Have they talked to you about what can be done?

My sister was blind for 4 months after a grade v SAH - it went unnoticed!. She eventually had a vitrectomy to remove the blood but developed Hemionopia and now only has vision in the top right quadrant of both eyes although this fills the whole visual field so what she sees is very strange!. She then developed cataracts & suffered a detached retina. Now 4 years on she is left with enough sight to walk, paint & see the telly but reading is too hard. Some sight is better than no sight though eh! Good lighting & plenty of therapy to is essential. My sisters case was pretty extreme so hopefully your outcome will be way better

Carmen...I have no expertise...just my experiences...

Regularly I suggest to ask your neuro-specialists on status...the biggest impacts of any issues we have are based on which artery/segment the aneurysm is located; which anatomically related cranial nerves...

Ask your doc (ophthalmologist) for testing and referral to a neuro-oph...my original oph did not recommend neuro-oph...friends of mine asked their oph...

Min1959 below notes hemianopsia...that is also on some of my records...w/ref to middle cerebral artery...

You need to find a doc who will cover all the aspects...vs "did not receive all records"...and, things like that...

Prayers your docs will address, direct you, to appropriate testing...

Carmen...a P.S...my light / mild leaks...and ERs...my record of coiling was noted as Hunt and Hess Grade I... essentially non-ruptured and a lot of the billing was coded to non-ruptured ...

We all have so many things to share over time...

hi Carmen! i was grade 5 , blind in left side of both eyes they all said might come back might not, i wish i had more promising report but i am thankful i can see straight and right side, its been 5 years and i guess id better get used to not driving and being permanently disabled- still working at acceptance and moving forward with my life. Most healing occurs within the first year- hang in there don't lose faith

, i will hope and pray for your healing~~

I, too, was blind for some months. I had a Grade V- Terson's Syndrome in both eyes- had vitrectomy on both eyes- complications in R (tear in retina during surgery) 8 months later, cataract surgery, L eye was great, same refraction as before SAH- vision is good with corrective lenses now- I am very fortunate.....

Thankyou so much for all this response it’s incredibly helpful! My best friend is the person who had the SAH and she has the first eye surgery in morning…

Hi Carmen. I had a SAH just over 2 years ago. I spent 4 months in the hospital. 2 months in Toronto Western Hospital, the hospital that saved my life. And 2 months in Toronto Rehab, where I was given back my mobility. I am forever grateful. While I was there in hospital I lost sight in one eye. I had surgery, it is called a vitrectomy, which removed the blood in the back of my eyes. Surgery was successful. And I was finally, able to see after a few months of being totally blind in one eye! Soon after being discharged from hospital. I developed cataracts in the same eye. I had surgery again and the cataracts were removed. Finally, I’m able to see properly. So having to deal with a horrendous trauma,

I had to deal with blindness for awhile. But with God’s Grace, I’m getting better, and better everyday. Carmen keep the faith. See an eye specialist, there are advanced techniques to saved eyesight, after an aneurysm. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Thank you so much for all the info and kind words… She seems to be able to see a little better each day but in a lot of pain still unfortunately, hoping sooner than later she can be more comfortable like many of you… God bless all of you
