Angiogram tomorrow morning

Best to you…take a deep breath or two…all will be good. Maybe they can give you something to calm your nerves. The hard part is behind you. Let us know how you did.

Hi Sharon - Wishing you a speedy recover from your angiogram. I have had 3 follow-up angios since my rupture and they were all completely painless. For me it is peace of mind to know that all is fine with my brain.

All the best to you!

The best of luck to you. We were all very nervous before our procedures. I know I sure was. But you try to make the best decisions for the healthiest outcome. Before my clipping surgery, I thought I was holding together 'relatively' well but got a chuckle when I walked into the hospital for my craniotomy and realized I still had my bedroom slippers on! We all get nervous, that's normal. Good luck. Let us know how you do.

I felt the same way for the same reason....I was aware it was happening this time. If I can do it anyone can! It really wasn't that bad. Remember to breathe and all will be good.

I had an angiogram 2 weeks ago. Just waiting before the procedure is nerve-wracking, but it was a short process and you'll be out in the recovery area in no time. Good luck : )

EZ peazy is definately the expression - I too, like most people was a nervous wreck - and couldn't believe when it was over - no pain nuttin' honey! you just need to be very still that is all you need to know and do - let us all know how it goes! As you can see we're all rootin' for ya!

Sharong, my angio before my coiling/stent was wonderful - no problems. I did want you to know, however, my 3 month angio followup after coiling and stent (I did not have a rupture) was problematic for just about 3 minutes. When the catheter reached a certain spot in my brain, there was immediate pain - really bad, I might add. I immediately cried out and my neurosurgeon immediately stopped and instructed someone there to administer something that gave me immediate relief. I actually had forgotten all about it.

Everyone is right, though, that the anxiety about having one is worse than the angio itself. I just wanted you to know that if you do feel pain, let them know immediately. Everything checked out on that 3 month angio and I have annual MRA's now. I did not feel that pain again afterwards. I was worried about something in the angio report that my GP read to me, so I entirely forgot to ask what happened and why I might have had the pain. The angio report stated that my stent had moved since the original surgery, but my surgeon had researched back to the CT I had the day after surgery while I was in the NICU and the stent had already moved by day 2 and then stabilized, so it was perfectly acceptable in the location it ended.

There are different ways that surgeons seal the artery afterwards. My surgeon prefers to have pressure put on the artery for 15 minutes or more until it clots, then only bandages it. With this method, I have had to lay completely flat for 4 hours until I am discharged from the recovery room and hospital. But they take really good care of you during this time - I ate (careful what you order - you can't lift your head), watched TV, and you still have the IV in if you need more drugs (I did, but I can't remember what). Other surgeons may put in a plug and I have also heard of stitches. Be prepared to be be flat on your back anytime from 1-4 hours, but you go into recovery during this time and the nurses are fabulous. You'll do great! Sherri

All the best Sharong. Trusting it went really well. I’m having a craniotomy and aneurusm clipped in 3 days and I’m petrified.

Hello Sharong,

Best wishes too you tomorrow . I have had my share of angiograms and I understand how anxious you are…take it from a pro…no pain…at all. Good luck!

Terri

RELAX I worried way to much. Of course anyone would rather not having to do this but its not bad at all

A little uncomfortable but not painful at all. Good Luck

Best of Luck.

My first angio, not knowing what to expect was almost an, "Out of Body" Experience. It seemed like I was watching the Aurora Borelis (never could spell), in reverse, seen by my brain. Focus on the amazing talent and technology that today's medical teams have to offer. They are the reason that so many of us are here to support each other.

Kat I had an aneurysm clipped on May 8 2012. Trust in your surgical team and give yourself time. I honestly feel great now. Take time to recover, do not rush. Warm thoughts for you. <3

Strongs Sharon - you will be ok :)

You will be fine. Stay calm.

I can relate to your nervousness and being awoke. I had my awoke angiogram and I’m here to encourage you to stay still and follow directions and all will be well. Good luck to you!

thanks so much for the encouragement people! It made me feel much better about it.

I was at the hospital before 7am even though I only had 4 1/2 hours sleep so I felt horrible and just wanted to cancel but knew I couldnt but kept telling myself, once you get ready and get there, the rest is up to them. I did asked for a relaxant and they sent in an anesthetist who gave me an injection. It was some good stuff and relaxed me immediately (made me feel pretty buzzed). If it wasnt for that, I think I might have jumped off the table and bailed on it. LOL.

While I was getting the local anesthetic , the guy taking the images introduced himself and said "im just trying to distract you", it wasnt working though ;) and dang that part hurt! but I really hated the feeling of the dye, it was sort of uncomfortable for me, and so random, one minute it's the left side of my head, the next time it's around my right eye etc, I didnt like the sensation at all.so glad for that relaxant.

I was in the recovery ward until 4pm because they couldnt stop the blood from oozing out because of the plavix Ive been on for 6 months so it was about 7 hours lying still which started being torture for my back. unfortunately I didnt sleep at all today, mostly because the nurse was doing obs every 15 minutes and trying to get the blood to stop oozing out and I was so sore and dizzy when I tried to get up and walk and i am pretty exhausted now, back home and taking it easy. neuro interventionist said everything looks good though so I can come off the plavix and it should be a long time until the next one. It was a more drawn out thing than I thought it would be, but I will sleep like a baby tonight! I still can't believe I made it there after so little sleep and it's finally over now. next time should be easier since I know what to expect though and Ill be asking for that relaxant next time too! lol
