6 years and counting (post coiling)

Greetings!

My name is Lori and I am coming up on 6 years post coiling after subarachnoid hemorrhage....I had 6 month follow-up but nothing since. My Mom passed away from an aneurysm four years ago....

Do you think I should find a new neurologist to review my case? Or anyone else out there with a similar story?

This site is so great....I'm in Evansville, IN if anybody is close by and wants to meet up.

Thank you BAF and you all for this site!

Lori

Hi Lori,

It would be a good idea to be followed by a Neurologist atleast twice a year even if you don't have any symptoms. My wife, also a Lori (my favorite name next to my mother's) is seen for her migraines and there are some in office diagnostics that are always helpful for post surgical patients. Sorry to hear about your Mom however. God Bless.

Hi Lori...Husband got transferred to PA recently so we moved, but just sold our condo in Downtown Indianapolis...I know of Evansville...sorry we might have met up...too far now...

Happy 6 years of Freedom...I do agree with Ed...you should at least have a neurologist to follow your case and since you were coiled your surgeon should be following up on you ... ~ keep us posted, thoughts out to you ~ Colleen

Hi Lori. I had coiling and stent in October 2011 and had angio at 3 months post and then my neurosurgeon has had me on yearly MRA's - I have one coming up in the next month. I don't really know why some people here are seen by neurologists and some by other specialists that specialize in angiography (can't remember their names). My doc said at some point he may start me on tests farther out, but that I will always need to be followed as coiling sometimes need further maintenance. My neurosurgeon left for a great job out of state after I saw him last year, but indicated that until they find a replacement, I will continue to be seen by neurosurgeons in the same office or go to Boston if there is a problem.

I hope you are able to find a doctor you like and trust. I think that is half the battle - some have simply awful bedside manners.

Yes I think you should find a new doctor. You should be screened 6 months and one year post rupture and then two years after that and then 5 years after that. And maybe even 10 years after that. New aneurysms can develop and you need to find a doctor who understands BA and helps you understand everything. Good luck!
