Spam alert!

Watch out for a comment or an email from this guy:

AUGUTIN AZIAKOU added a comment to your profile Brain Aneurysm Support Community Good day,

I got an email from him but didn't open it. Googled him and he is a scammer. Not to mention the english is so bad that it's obvious from the start that its spam......

I sent him an emai. Am I in trouble now? Does this happen often? Should I do something? Just thought it was safe coming from here. I don’t even know how to get to my wall. Thank you.

Hi Mary..!..When did you send him an email? Do you have a program that will check for spyware or malware? It may be that there isn't a problem. I would have your computer checked by a professional just so no one has access to any of your banking info or anything else you wouldn't want to share. Good luck!

Thanks for posting this, and yes, he's a spammer that slipped through our nets. It doesn't happen often, but every once in a while, someone manages. (I'm still wondering how this happened, because AA is well-known to us: he tries all of our communities from time to time. How he got through here is beyond me.)

Mary, as long as communication is through your inbox here at bafsupport.org, not much can happen (the site does not reveal your true email address). However if you email him from your personal email, then you should mark his messages as "spam" or "junk" and your email service provider will divert his messages to the garbage before you see them. Yahoo and gmail both have great filters.

Good news! On the new platform, there are extra systems in place to prevent this from happening.

Thanks, Jubilee, for letting people know that he was on the loose here.

It was strange. I was standing next to a computer expert (my son in law, and he really is an expert!) when that email came in. I knew it was bad news but I was surprised that it included the BA address. When he said he left me a note there...I checked. no note.

Thank you for your reply. and could you repost the new URL or address your going to? And again, I appreciate the time and effort it takes to be a mod. Thanks!

Yep I got one from him

Jubilee, you're very welcome. I love the volunteer work I do on Ben's Friends because I know it makes a small difference in a lot of lives. I will also admit that I love catching and canning spammers. ;-) We usually manage to cut them off before they find their way in, though, and I'm embarrassed that AA snuck in. Can't figure it out.

The new URL? Do you mean the URL we are going to when we move to the new platform? It will be exactly the same as this: bafsupport.org. One day you will go to bafsupport and it will all look different. What you will need to do is this:

1. use your email address to log in.

2. click on "forgot my password".

Then check your email. In there will be a message from bafsupport which gives you a link to click on. When you do that, you are registered on the new site. Ta-DA!

Garbage it and don't worry.

The reason the email you got came from BA is this: bafsupport.org forwarded his private message to you. He never saw your email address. (Thank goodness!)

Jubilee, you made me smile at the end of a very long day. Thank YOU!

I opened the email from him on my phone but didn't respond, does that mean I have a bug on my iphone now?

No worries, anniebananie. The email that you received came from bafsupport. The spammer hasn’t seen your address and never will as long as the messages are done through the community message system.

This person emailed me back because I was ridiculous enough to email them from my email address. I did not open and it is in spam. The email it came from is ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ and it says Urgent Request. Also Yahoo was just recently hacked.

Whew, thank God! Thanks

Ok. I'm getting a little concerned. He sent me an email and I gave him (whomever) mine. What do I need to do now? I really hate this, thought since it was through BA it was safe. HELP!

Messaging under the protective “cover” of the community is safe. Emailing directly is less so. Your email service (Hotmail, yahoo, gmail etc) have filters that you can use to sift out spam.

Emailing back from your "real" email address probably wasn't such a good idea. But probably the worst that can happen is more email from him. If that happens, mark it as "spam" so that your email provider can filter it out before it see it. It's unlikely that your system is threatened. Just delete and mark as spam, and remind yourself next time to use the messaging on the community to correspond. Life is just one long learning process, isn't it
