Hi All,
I'm wondering how low the risk is for having an angiogram? I'd appreciate any knowledge or wisdom folks may have in this regard.

Hi All,
I'm wondering how low the risk is for having an angiogram? I'd appreciate any knowledge or wisdom folks may have in this regard.
Judi
Judi, it is best to discuss the risks with your doctor, as risk depends partly on your individual situation, including your overall health. Here is a resource on angiograms from Hopkins that has some good general information about cerebral angiograms
I hope you find it helpful. Is there an angiogram in your near future?
Dancermom, thanks for the website. Good info for us!! Kimberly
Dancermom, thanks for the link to the info and the reminder to discuss risks with my doctor. My angiogram will be in January. This will be my second one post-coilings. Again, appreciating your note. Judi
Wishing you an uneventful angio in January, Judi. Keep us posted.
Thanks. Wishing you well, too.
Hello Judi,
This is my exact question. I've been considering not getting the angiogram, a 6-month post-coiling check. I haven't been able to find any statistical comparison to the risks of the angiogram versus the risks of the coiled aneurysm doing something harmful.
Can a coiled aneurysm re-rupture? I have been considering myself "well" at 3 months post coiling because I have no health problems other than muscle weakness (from being in a hospital bed for 4 weeks).
I hope this is an appropriate place to respond. If it isn't, I hope someone will advise me.
Jackie
Jackie I would write your question in forum- more will see it there, just clik forum then +add then type then save- don't forget to save or it will be lost, you can copy paste it to the forum, good luck! tc
Thanks Ron, and I'm so sorry you continue to suffer from your brain event after 5 long years.

i just know that since 1988, all i can have (cuz clips) was angiograms,,,, I've had up towards 20.. I never thought about it, but all my neurologists did.. they all reluctantly ordered the test... One said, "they are invasive and your pushing your luck".. after reading the article attached below.. I NEVER thought of the radiation exposure... from each and every angiogram... now I know why my neurologists, especially my one and only fav.. was always so reluctant... but did it cuz her orders sure did find more aneurysms. What does this radiation, over the years do to us.... anyone know? Thanks! Kimberly
its ok Jackie i'm used to it knda, I will send you a friend req that way the author of this wont get an e mail notification every time we reply back and forth altho im sure they wont mind~
I wouldn’t mind!
Oh Kimberly, I'm so sorry you are still having angios. My gosh. So you've had the clips done on how many aneurysms? I would assume that you had fluoroscopy during each clip procedure, too. Is that true?
When I had my follow up with neuro he said they would be doing an angio at 6 months, 12 months and 3 years, to check on the condition of the coiled aneurysm. He didn't say anything about looking for more of them. He said that after 3 years the coiled aneurysm is not in danger of rupturing again. You've added a whole new dimension to the reason to have one done in the first place.
I hope you will share any answers to your question about radiation.
Best wishes for a "normal" life,
Jackie JJ
Dancer...has the "ask the doc" been cancelled and removed?
Thanks,
Pat
Yes, Pat, that happened awhile ago, as the volunteer who ran that feature was not able to continue with it.
thank you for letting me/others know...it would be so grand if these types of changes are brought forward...I am not on frequently so could not have asked much earlier..,
