Pain related to a ruptured aneurism

I suffered a ruptured aneurism on Nov. 1,2013, was in the hospital for two, weeks and had the coiling procedure. I am getting physical therapy at home but am experiencing a lot of pain in my back, buttocks and going down my legs. Just feel awful everyday, has anyone experienced this?

Hi Marilyn...call your neurosurgeon/interventionalist office and tell them what you are experiencing and is this normal? I will tell you ... that my back was sore and I was told it was the position they had me in to do the coiling...but I am not sure about your legs, buttocks, etc., ~ Colleen

I have an appointment with my neurosurgeon this Monday to go over my latest CAT scan, I will ask him about this pain in my buttocks and radiating down into my legs, it is just awful and I am always exhausted. I walk around as much as I can and do my exercises but still feel awful. Thanks for responding to my question, hope you are well.

Marilyn....welcome...I always so regret for all the unfortunate reasons we connect here...

A lot... I still wonder why such early discharges...particularly with the minimally invasive coiling...

I wish I could be more positive...I was discharged w/o PT...and, w/limited speech therapy... thus, it suggests the routine treatment is routine...

My left buttocks (from the sciatic nerve) down my left leg to foot...and. my left hand/lower arm tingle and falls asleep...if I don't keep it exercised...

RE: sciatic nerve...lumbar spine...ask your neuro-doc if you had (blanking)...spinal? (there's another name...)...and, the results of it...

tingles and falls asleep....My left foot can still cramp even tho on potassium...

Suggest you call your neuro-specialists...Did your neurosurgeon/interventionalist refer you directly to a neurologist? Or are you working thru a PCP who does, or who will, explain they are not qualified in the brain states / symptoms / functions?

Marilyn...over and over, we get good results from others...and, thru recovery times / changes, etc...

Hugs and prayers for your getting response / help from your neuro-docs

Pat

Marilyn,

YES, I've experienced horrendous lower back pain--right at about the coccyc, with intensely bad pain generating down the sciatic nerve...this began happening on the last two days of a 7 week hospital stay after my aneurysm burst/subsequent coma /coiling.....I thought at the time i must of moved wrong or slept wrong somehow, and that the pain would soon diminish with advil..but when I got home the pain really started kicking in--infact on the drive home I could've jumped out of the passenger side of the car due to this newfound pain...at home I literally danced all around when i did the dishes as the pain was incredible -- and getting rid of it seemed to be a real problem for me. I took long hot bathes, exersized, stretched, you name it. I finally went to a chiropractor who tried to help me but nothing seemed to work...i went to physicial therapy and that too did little good...I finally just started walking around our neighborhood alot --walking up hill seemed to relieve my pain the most, but that was only for the 'moment'...bicycling seemed to help for the momentary relief--it was the most frustrating thing i've ever had to deal with really! finally, about 5 or 6 months past and one day i was able to actually touch my toes again with no excruciating pain (The sciatic nerve pain was off the charts on so many days!) and at about that time, the pain just mysteriously went away.

Until I joined this Site...i'd not heard of too many with the same problem...until I met a fellow BAFfer who had a wealth of information related to her lower back/sciatic nerve pain after undergoing a shunt to help with circulating the spinal fluid....I had a shunt as well but it has been removed...ANd although no health professional could render me any advice , I now believe my pain was due to a problem with the CSF fluid ...(the recirculation thereof) ...Her name is Sandra, hopefully she'll read your post and respond to it....I'll get her full member name just in case she happens to miss this, I was greatly enlightened by her wisdom so maybe you will be too! Peace, Janet

Marilyn, yes I had the pain that you describe in my buttocks radiating down I to my leg, as well. Due to the way I was laying for my surgery I had a pinched sciatic nerve. My neurosurgeon didn’t assume it was that. They checked for clots in my left leg and also did an MRI of my back and I think it was called an EMG to check the nerves. I still get this pain when I sit in a car too long.

I know you saw your neurosurgeon yesterday, I hope that he was able to set your mind at ease and order some tests to ultimately get you out of pain.

XStill experiencing pain in my buttocks, legs and back. My ruptured aneurism occurred fifteen months ago, I am still recovering and not the same person I was before this all happened. I went for physical therapy for almost one year with not great results, anyone else experiencing these symptoms?

Hi my husband had a brain aneurysm October 6. He has been in so much pain lately. He also has problem eating and pooping. He just came home Friday night. I feel so bad for him
I don’t know what to do. Please share any ideas.

I had pretty horrific pain in my hips and down a leg after my surgery (I didn't have a rupture, just a coil/stent). My GP diagnosed that it wasn't my hip and ordered a lower back MRI. Evidently during the 36 hours that I was laying still and they were carting me to ICU, to cat scan and back to ICU I was moved incorrectly. I ended up with 3 bulging discs and horrible nerve pain. It has been 3 years now and getting better, though I don't think my back will ever be the same as before surgery. Have you had a MRI on your back?

I was in the ICU for two weeks following my ruptured aneurism, I had the coiling done and then a few months later my doctor had to put in a flow diverter stent because another aneurism was forming off of the area that was coiled. It has been fifteen months since the rupture and I am slowly making progress. At first I could barely walk, but with physical therapy I am doing better. Still have problems with balance and not being steady on my feet. Yes at first eating and moving my bowels was a problem, I feel it was alll due to the medications I was on, mainly for pain. I still have pain in my buttocks and legs. MRIs didn’t reveal any problems but I have had this constant pain since the rupture. Have your husband go for physical therapy it is important to keep moving. Hope he feels better, it is a slow recovery, at least it has been for me.

I has a rupture and clipping almost 10 years ago. 2.5 weeks in ICU. When I came home I was quite weak physically. I had physical therapy here at home for a time. I never had the kind of pain and discomfort you describe. I think you should consult your doctor!
