MY PICA Ruptured Brain Aneurysm Story

I am a 40 Year old Mother of Four,
I had a severe headache, with seizure activity, Vomitting, and then passed out while I was in car pulling out of the driveway. (Thankful I wash't driving yet) Went to ER waited another hour and It happened again, Pupils blew and ER Doctor said I may have a Brain bleed and sent me for CT or MRI don't remember They put in external drain Because I had a Ruptured PICA Aneurysm and admitted. The Dr. From the hospital I was at was on Vacation, So I was transferred to the other Local hospital and that Dr. Was world known for Coiling, So I under went an Emergency Coiling of the Aneurysm I had every problem possible, I had Bacterial Meningitis, Pneumonia, Vaso Spasms, Hydrocephalus I am sure other things I ended up with 4 surgeries. 1 month intubated in ICU, and another month being taken off breathing tube and going to Rehab. I am doing much better, But still a lot of problems, I have a SHUNT for life due to the Hydrocephalus, I have only been home a little over 2 months. I look forward to talking to others with similar situations.

Welcome, mhagele, it is great that you are here and sharing your story. Wishing you the best for your continued recovery!

Thank you very much, Dancermom

I am Michelle, Thank you again and have a great day.

That is wonderful Jim, How old were you at the time.

Did you have Hydrocephalus? And receive a Shunt?

Otherwise about how long was until you were at where you are now?

Michelle...welcome...you were blessed you were not driving...and, that you are home now...

My initial ER was a listed home of mine...walking thru garage to my car...I have always felt so blessed because the neighbor across the street was outside w/her two small children...and, it was a family neighborhood/community...

Prayers for your continued recovery...

Pat

WOW Jim, I had all the same things Plus some, except the Heart attack, I did NOT have a heart attack, I had Bacterial Meningitis, Pneumonia, vaso spasms, hydrocephalus, My Temperature Regulator quit working, So my Fever went up to 105, and needed cooling blankets, Ice baths, and another time temp dropped to 95 needed heating blanket, I guess I was just testing them all I guess. LOL I am SOOOO Blessed to be here with my family, I have some residual issues, But they are Minor Compared to what they could have been. They are debilitating but could be SOOO Much Worse. I was only 40 when this happened, I had been an LPN for approx. 9 years and went back and got my RN in 2010, I have four children 3 that are pretty much grown up, and one Son who was only 6 at the time. I have so much yet to do. God Bless each and everyone of you, and Jim I hope things continue to get better for you.
