I don't remember any of it but the story I was told goes like this.
On Christmas day 2013 I had come home and I told my 15 year old son to call an ambulance. When he realized I was serious, he did. The EMTs came and told him I was suffering from food poisoning and to keep me hydrated and I would be OK. They never even took my blood pressure even though I know I had the mother of all head aches and was vomiting. At some point my fiance came to be with me and around 3 am, when I could no longer protest because I was about comatose, he took me to the hospital. They diagnosed the bleeding aneurysm and sent me to UVA where I spent 21 days. I have been home 3 months now and seem to be recovering well, though I do still have headaches every day. The first thing I remember is my fiance giving me pills to take about 2 weeks after I was home. The doctor said it is normal to loose all of this time, that his patients never remember him.
Hi and Welcome to BAF ~
Wishing you better days ahead...~ Healing Thoughts your way ~ Colleen
Your doctor is right. Many with aSAH have no memory of events. I have no memory of about four days, though my family said i was awake and talking. Sounds like your typical. Hang in there. Hopeful, the headaches will get better. I only get "those headaches" now when im under stress. Takes a while to get back to our new normal. Most here have learned what their new normal is, and we make adjustments to accomodate the new normal. When im tired, i take a nap or go to bed early{hard to nap at work LOL}. When Im stressed and I stumble in my speech, I slow down. I try to keep stress down to a miminum by focusing on, and enjoying the things I LOVE AND ENJOY. I let the small stuff go.Sounds like youre recovering very well. Grab ahold of life and enjoy
Hi Wanda !
So glad you're home and recovering~I lost all recollection of everything that took place between December 9th 2006 til the end of January 2007~I think that's a good thing really, I didn't seem to be in a great mood during that time frame anyway (So i've been told)! Peace, Janet
It must be normal to lose time. I had a ruptured aneurysm & an unruptured one. Last thing I remember on 02/09/12 is talking to my friend on the phone. Next thing I remember its March 1st & I’m asking a nurse where am I, how did I get here & why can’t I see anything. When the nurse told me about the aneurysms I slapped her on the leg and said " no really, what happened. I wasn’t in a coma during those 3weeks. I talked to everyone that crossed into my room. During that time I had a urinary tract infection, pneumonia and a slight heart attack. I had to have a shunt installed & I don’t remember any of it. Plus they had to restrain me because I wanted to take out the I.v. And the shunt. Now fast forward 2 yrs. I’m back working full time. I drive everywhere as long as I have gps. I still have some short term memory issues, can’t always find the right word that I’m looking for and occasional vertigo but all in all I’m good. This site has been a godsend. Take care and keep us posted. Good days are headed your way.
Thanks for the welcomes everyone. I hope I am doing this right. Nowadays, one can never be sure as I think you all understand.
