I am looking for possible agencies/places to assist in funding an MRI for my daughter.
My paternal grandmother and mother died from brain aneurysms, and one almost killed me. The genetic odds are not in her favor. She has gotten a referral to get an MRI as a possible "pre-emptive strike" against whatever may be lurking. She has insurance; however the co-pay is still going to be several hundred dollars. The kid works her butt off, but like everyone else, there isn't much paycheck left over.
I don't want her to go through what I have every day for the last 12 years... or worse, lose her because of a lack of funds for an MRI.
A lot of hospitals have departments that work with patients to find help/programs that will cover medical bills. Programs vary from state to state. My local hospital's program is called HealthConnect that does that service. You can also google "programs that help people in (state) find help in paying for medical bills. If you can't find help in these locations, or if she does not qualify, you could also call local churches in her area. Many of these have funds to help people in their community with emergency money. Good luck, Sherri
Sherri is right on with how to get help. I’d also add that you might want to talk to the Health Department in your county. They may be aware of some forms of assistance. We have CCCM (Christian Cooperative Ministeries) in our county that helps people with medicine and such. CCM is a joining of the majority of local churches so people could go to one place to receive aid. Oh and some hospitals will give a discount if the co-pay is paid within so many days. Our local hospital is 20% off if paid in 30 days if I remember correctly. When you or your daughter calls the hospital, ask for that information as well.
I'm not an expert on this subject, but have learned that Social Workers are some of the most resourceful people on this planet. Try to connect with one, and have your list of questions ready, and as brief as possible, as they are overworked, and always busy!
