Just got clipped

After suffering from severe headaches and sensitivity to bright lights, my primary Dr. suggested I have my eyes checked because it was a couple years since my last exam. Well, the optometrist said my eyes were fine, next step was MRI. The day after the MRI, I was called and told I needed an MRA. A couple days later I got the call I dreaded, I’m 54 and have an aneurism pushing against my optic nerve and it would be difficult to get to. My Dr. recommended UCSF for the surgery as they have a great track record for neurosurgery. Dr. Lawton gave me my options, clipping, coiling or waiting and watching. I decided on clipping and now I hope it was the best move. It’s been a month since my skull was sawed and I still have bad headaches and a burning sensation along the incision area. I’m having trouble completing sentences, and the disorientation I have when I try to get out of bed in the morning is intense. Leg tremors, spasms in my head, nausea…I was expecting to feel better. I did a lot of reading about the dismal survival statistics if they rupture so I’m delighted to be alive, I just hope the recovery progresses better.

Hi Martin,

Have you been back to see your Neurosurgeon about these after-effects? Have you had followup with he/she since and if not yet, then perhaps a call into his office to get the appointment moved forward?

I'm so sorry to hear of these problems....and considering the headaches/burning sensation where your scar is located, and the trouble with sentances..(How long has that been happening, since right after your surgery or recently?) ..I think you deserve to be seen by the Neurosurgeon. At which artery was your aneurysm and did the doc say he had trouble with your surgery ? (any surprises?)

(sigh), If you should become worse, please move quickly and get yourself to the Emergency room...if you've any scans, bring them along..

Peace to you, Martin

Janet

Hi Martin...this is a long journey and especially when clipped...2 months is still very early in the healing journey...remember even the littlest improvements are big with the brain...take this time to rest and get something for those headaches from your surgeon...Sending good thoughts your way ~ Colleen
