Hey everyone. Sorry it’s been awhile
I had my surgery. Last min they decided to go in from opposite side and go under my brain due to my anyrisum being in a rare spot. Every thing went great. Been 3 weeks. Now dealing with sever jaw and tooth pain. Feels like ice in my jaw and teeth on that side. It hurts so much… My surgeon said somthing about having to maybe see a facial specialist. Anyone else have this? Any tips for pain relief?sAs my perks don’t help it at all
.
Hi Kaitlyn,
Congrats on the successful surgery! The jaw pain was by far the worst part of recovery for me. I honestly was not able to find much relief for that pain. No pain killers really helped me. One thing I can say is to definitely keep up with the exercises of the jaw muscle. Keep opening as closing a few times daily to get the muscle moving. After a few weeks I kept trying to slowly pry my mouth open a little bit more each day. This was extremely painful but I only did it to what I could tolerate. The jaw healing will take a long time, so be prepared for that. I am nearly 10 months post op and I still cannot fully open my mouth to what it was before the surgery, but the pain is no longer constantly present. I still have days when it hurts, but believe the doctors when they say to give it time. I questioned this all the time with my doctor as to why I was in so much pain and if it was normal. Remember that they cut open the jaw muscle and that it needs a lot of time to heal. You are still very early on in the recovery process. Try to stick to soft foods as much as you can to eliminate the muscle having to work too hard.
About seeing a specialist, I think it may be too early to decide on that. My doctor told me to give it a couple of weeks to months to see how it started to heal and to keep up with the exercises to prevent any long term issues. If it continues over the next few weeks then it wouldn’t hurt to get a specialists opinion.
Keep your head up, everything will get better with time!
My surgeon said the pain I’m having is more then I should be. It’s so horrible. Nothing stops it. The first time it got so bad I went to er and they admitted me, over drugged me , almost made my heart stop beating and compleatly ignored me. I’m terrified to go back there in pain. But there has to be somthing that lessens this pain. I know it will take time but it’s unbearable.
They told me pain was from the irritation to the jaw muscle. I couldn’t even open my mouth at first!!! Looked like a drunk trying to drink something as it just ran back out!!! It does go away after about a month. Funny doctors never told me until I asked.
