I had a craniotomy dec. 2010. I had a follow up at one month, 8 months and it has now been just a little over a year and I am nervous. Dr says I don’t need one yet. I do have an aunt that has two aneurysms but are the ones that aren’t treated. So I do have a family history of some sort, but no deaths in the family due to them. I’m just curious how often everyone gets check ups?
I had a craniotomy Nov. 1992. I have not had another artriogram or MRI MRA since surgery. I had an annie behind my right eye where yours was your left. I did have one CT scan to check for fluid. My neuro here wants me to have an MRI but I was told at Emory that I can't have one because of the clip and screws in my head. I just haven't taken the time to check with Emory about having something done. At times I feel like I should have another angio but I really hate those. I think if I start having symptoms I will get checked out. As you know , now you are so much more aware of your brain and how it functions, so I think if anything feels out of sync, I will know it. Hang in there. Robyn
Hi Jennifer...this seems different for everyone...I was coiled and after 6 months I had an angio and then at 18 months ... now I am told I wait for 2 years...even though my coils compacted...
i was cliped and had one before discharge and no returns.
Thanks everyone! I appreciate your input! God Bless!
Hi Jennifer- I had the coiling done on a ruptured Annie and an unruptured one Feb 10, 2012. I had a3 month MRA in May & just had the 9 month one last FrIday. Now my surgeon has said she will see me next year. Neither of mine showed any change last week so I am thrilled. Will keep you in my thoughts & prayers
Hi Jennifer, everyone is different. I had a sah with coils in aug 2011 and have had three angiograms, cat scans and tomorrow i go for a mra. My anuerisym has a wide neck so they can't coil anyfurther. I find not only are we as patients all different but the doctors all have their own ideas on treatment. There is a fairly new stent approved now but I understand not many md's have a lot of practice with it. good luck to you. donna w
I had Gamma Knife radiation for an AVM a month before my craniotomy for my anuerysms. I had an MRI just to make sure everything was ok about 2.5 months after the crani because of a change in my migraines. I've had MRIs twice since then, but they were associated with 2 more GK treatments, not the annies. I'll go back for another MRI for the AVM in 7 months and another angiogram for the AVM a year after that.
Hi, I had a coil in February of this year. Was told I'd have an MRI at 3 months, 6 and than one year. Getting my first MRI this December so not sure if I'll get another in February. After that I was told annually for maybe 2 years and then around every 5 years. I was also told my children at age 25 had to start getting MRI's every 5 years. I'm in Toronto, Canada and have a great surgeon and hospital, but it's tough getting an MRI up here in a timely fashion. Fortunately, my surgeon stepped in to ensure I got a date for December.
Good Luck.
Hey Jennifer. How have you been? My clipping was 9/26/08. I had a follow up a month after then they said 5 years. I had problems with migraines and they did another one a few months ago. I was ok. I have a second smaller one on the watch and wait plan. You’d be interested, a couple years ago I took my brain aneurysm bracelet to a local tattoo parlor and said “give me one of these.”. Now I never take it off!
Thanks for the info everyone!
Thomas that is great what you did with your tattoo! Glad to hear you have checked out ok! I have been doing great! I think I just get worried and need reassurance that everything is ok! It’s been 13 months since my last scan, Dr. Says I can wait another year. It just makes me nervous. 6 months after surgery I started a foundation called Blu Bird Foundation and we have had several events to raise money for research and to help patients in need! We raised $9,000 for a boy I met that ruptured during surgery and needs lots of help and we raised $18,000 for research ($1,000 went to the brain aneurysm foundation and $17,000 to Northwestern Memorial Foundation on behalf of my Surgeon, Dr. Bernard Bendok). You should check it out! I am trying my best to turn a negative situation into something positive! Www.blubirdfoundation.org
Thanks again for everyone’s support!
