How fast should surgery be when your diagnosed with a unruptured aneurysm?

Hi Wendi I was diagnosed with two aneurysms one on basilar artery in August I had angiography last month and I am waiting for my coiling to be done on the 19th as many people hav said it is also annoying for me to wait for the coilling and only the words basilar artery is enough to scare me however I try to remind myself that I was living with these aneurysms without knowing and I hopefully will make it to the operation. I turned 31 this month and I am looking forward to my new life after the coiling, wish the same for you too

I will be praying for you..please let me know how your surgery goes with the coiling, and your angio? Dont worry everything will be fine! You are still very young and your life after the coiling will be GREAT!!

Hi Wendi,

I think you should trust the surgeon who said you should have this coiled. Prevention is always better than cure, and you are extremely lucky this has been detected before a rupture. Ive had 3 coiling done, and I feel fine. After surgery I was amazed at how good i felt, it felt like i hadnt even had an operation at all. It is amazing how key hole surgery is carried out, and how quick the recovery process is, unlike after a rupture. Please go through with the surgery, as you may not be experiencing any symptoms or probs right now, dont put it off. This is the best time to go through the procedure, you will be fine, and while you are in good health otherwise, you will benefit from this. I cannot express, the importance of having this done, but please believe me you will be amazed at how you feel after you have this coiling.

good luck and god bless

My 8.5 mm aneurysm (right paraopthalmic internal carotid artery - behind right eye) was confirmed in early December and I had my stent put in in January 11, 2011. Between these periods, i was told not to lift heavy things, not to do strenuous physical exercise or even fly (not so much for the flying but it would be best to be closer to your hospital just in case anything happens). Also, no thrill rides or bungee-jumping, etc. I did not feel they were trying to scare me but more because they want to make sure nothing happens before I have had my procedure. Also, smoking is a no-no. I still have ice-pick headaches even after my procedure but I have follow-up check-ups to keep an eye on things. My doctors and friends kept saying I was lucky as it was discovered before it ruptured and so should you also feel. Just make sure your doctors keep a close eye on your aneurysm and if you think you should push for an earlier intervention, then request for it. Good luck!

I had a meeting with anesthesia guy prior to my surgery and told him I didn’t want to get sick from the anesthesia he used 3 different anti nausea drugs during and after and I woke up and felt great no nausea at all. Talk to your anesthesia dr before it really helps

Thank you so much, sorry it took me so long to get back with you. I will be having it on Feb.9th.in the morning! Did you feel better after it was coiled? Ive been really tired lately.

Thank you so much for all the advice and info. My surgery is scheduled for Feb 9, at 8:00am. Did you have yours coiled? How was the surgery? What did your doctors say about the ice pick headaches? What causes those? Iam not a smoker.(I used to smoke) not heavy though. Does smoking cause people to get annies, seems like everyone I know with one is or used to smoke?

I have 2 aneurysms. The one that ruptured was 4mm. Its on the basilar artery. I also smoked. becca

Until recently, I believed I was coiled with a stent to hold them in as this was the plan they initially discussed with me. I guess when they went in, things changed and they decided to do a pipeline (or PED) instead. I am very bad with these things and my operation happened at the height of the Queensland floods so my records and other medical stuff which was sent to my home did not make it. I am still in the process of getting another copy - but have to go through all these red tape just to get it. I digress, sorry. Surgery went well and I was in hospital for 3 days I had stroke a few days later (clot formed somewhere and blocked an artery) but all's well now. The icepick headaches, I was told, was not something to worry about. I guess the annie being in the location it is could cause that - not sure. I do not smoke at all but it is something the doctors stressed and even researching on the net seems to point to the same precaution. I guess it is important to be healthy more than anything. Again, feel lucky that yours was discovered before it ruptured as a ruptured one could be a life-threatening situation and recovery after treatment will be much more difficult than the other option. Good luck on your coming surgery and keep us posted to let us know how you are doing.
