Headaches

I have had a coil with a PED in September 2015 and had a small stroke

during the procedure.

When do the Headaches stop ? I have been taking Tylenol and it seem

to help for a little while then it comes back.

I have seen an eye specialist and he said my eyes were fine.

Other than the headaches, I feel fine.

Hey Christa,

When do the Headaches stop ? Sorry to say but that's a bit like asking "how long is a piece of string?" Hopefully for you, soon. But for some of us they don't stop. I have some 'bad days' and then I have those days you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. On these days I'm a vampire, no light, no noise, nothing, just laying in bed. I do force myself not to hibernate but it takes me a couple of hours for the initial morning headache to settle enough for me to function. Anything less than that is a bonus.

My headaches seem to radiate via my eyes and in the almost 3 yrs since my last incident they have been chronic severe. I have been to see all sorts of specialists from ophthalmologists to physiologists to psychologists and of course neurologists/surgeons. The neuros have scanned, viewed and operated and have achieved their goal, the physiologist says "...its practice, you just have to keep moving..." if it was only that easy. The psychologist will give you tablets till you rattle and leave you spaced out of your mind. And as you've said you've "seen an eye specialist and he said my eyes were fine." My eye dr, the ophtha, told me "...it could be scar tissue, they could operate to remove it, BUT in doing so leave further scarring" so that's not much of an option. I am yet to have a nauseating headache free day

Now this may all sound cynical and to a point I spose it is. But I've been to all the specialists and been told all the differing theories and ideas. Prior to all this I thought I knew what a headache was. Oh My God, I knew nothing of a headache till all this. I do not believe that many people have an understanding of just how BAD it can get. You have a sore arm, it effects your arm. You have a sore head, it effects EVERYTHING!! Honestly, we have to manage our symptoms the best way for us. If you are receiving some benefit from Tylenol (I wish I could) then use it. In the times you need rest, take it. Maybe keep a headache diary. Monitor your headaches. Is there a pattern? What other meds are you taking? These are all questions/suggestions dr's have put to me and a self manage to meet my needs now. All the dr's and all the theories have not helped, so I manage for me, not them.

Personally, they operated on you in September '15?, give it some time. Like I say I'm almost 3yrs and still, bad, bad headaches. Some days chronic BAD

Best of luck with it and keep us informed. If you have questions then please do ask, there is bound to be others with, maybe not the exact same, but similar situation.

Hi, I agree you need to give it time and I pray that the headaches do stop for you. I had a rupture April '13 and a coiling jan '14 for me the headaches haven’t stoped since April '13. You just need to make sure you do whatever you need to in order to get some relief, personally I need to lay down and rest every afternoon because I just can’t tolerate the pain anymore. I’m currently on percocet every 6 hours as well as 2 anti siezure meds to prevent the headaches with no relief. I still hope that one day I will wake up and not have a headache the nuerologist keeps trying new meds maybe one could help you. Best of luck maybe someone has found a method to stop the headaches!

Hi Christa. I suffered a ruptured aneurysm that was clipped a little over two years ago. then I developed Vasospasm because of the rupture. I had daily headaches for three months. since then they have slowly went away. Now, its rare that I get one of "those headaches". stress can be a contributing factor. Many people have tried yoga or meditation or prayer. Hang in there.

thanks as long as there is hope

I agree, it is like asking how long is a string. Mine lasted around two months. I gave up on Tylenol as soon as I got home from the hospital. That has never worked for me (maybe I am non typical). I started taking Excedrin and it would stop or ease the headaches for several hours. The most irritating thing was that the headaches would wake me from a sound sleep in the middle of the night with a pain that felt like my head had been hit with a hammer. I would get up and take Excedrin and in about one half hour the pain would ease and I would go back to sleep. Thee headaches will stop, everyone is different but just keep hope because hey will go away. Good news, I have had far fewer "normal" headaches since the aneurysm headaches stopped.

I will try Tramadol, thanks for you suggestion

Wife had the same Issue with headaches - She would get a real head thumper every other day - this was about three months after coiling . Surgeon suggested Tramadol and tylenol taken together but said to try and use it sparingly - worked well - she rarely gets them anymore and a 650 mg over the counter tylenol usually works now .

Christa - be cautious of the tramadol, take them as prescribed. They are an opiate type drug and thus can create a need to keep the headaches at bay and sometimes you end up taking more and more.

Christa, I MUST agree with Moltroub. They can be nasty.

I do use opiates for pain, primarily codeine now, but I was on Endone (admittedly I still am in times of drastic need). When I was reducing the endone a Dr gave me Tramadol. For me, its a horrible drug, caused what I refer to as a withdrawal headache. As the amount of drug in my system reduced I would have a killer headache that only intensified until I got more drug in me. I can have awful headache without any assistance from drug withdrawal. I am now very aware and very careful. When the dr's write me up for a new drug, I get on the net and investigate. What does it treat? What is it actually for? What are the side effects/reactions? And if I have a reaction, then someone needs to know, my dr's, my chemist and my family. Let's face it, some of these drugs are poisons. Be safe. Be sure. Keep yourself informed

Edwardo, I totally and completely agree with you in regard to each case being different. And finding the right combination of medication to give the appropriate relief is a must. My statements above have all been "me" and "I" statements. For me, these have been some of the problems with certain meds. Some members have mentioned Tylenol, which again for me does not work. It's only by discussing options and sharing information that we can be made aware of other options, possibly things we previously had not thought of or considered an option. I know for myself, others discussions on these pages have given me different ideas and avenues to investigate.

Christa...so sorry I missed this...I had wondered how your trip was to visit your mother a month after your coil (and/or stent) (and hope I did not remember another Chris/ Christa ...my memory!)...

When did your headaches begin post-procedure?

Thank you for checking up with me..

While navigating thru the airports, I kept assuring myself that I am alone and that I needed

to get to my Moms home without incedent. You will be amazed what you can do if your all

alone in a different counrty.

My headaches are still there, but, I can manage with Tylenol. I continue to improve, however,

large crouds and busy restaurants are still bothering me. I hope in time I will fully recover.

I am back working and going to the Gym on a regular basis and resuming my old life as best that I can.

I’ve been struggling with headaches for 5 years since Sah on 2nd jan 2011, currently I’m on Pregabalin. Has anyone had any success with this?

Hey Simon,

I have been on this drug previously, but for me, the results were not good. I have heard of others who believe it to be a 'wonder drug', but sorry to say, I am not one of them.

Merl

Ohhh simon and Merl...I was typing/typing...and, the "internet just failed"...well, now you know my power of influence!!! I can shut down the internet!!! over just one drug name...

I am shutting down momentarily and will start over...in case I shut it down again...you will at least know why I am soooo slow...

Hey, I started over...quoting the FDA MedlinePlus...and again lost the internet... I have often thought this was our BAF website blocking me off!

Simon and Merl...is "third time the charm"?....to skip a lot of the next potential internet block off...

Go to: https:www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a605045.html

In case I have a typo...just search: Pregabalin: MedlinePlus ..

I have tendencies to think of it all as MedlineMinus...or, at least should be...just my interpretation...

Christa, if you’re taking Tylenol, or any of the acetaminophens, please make sure your doctor is aware and they do a blood work up of your liver, and don’t drink alcohol while you take anything with acetaminophen.

http://www.webmd.com/pain-management/features/acetaminophen-safety-faq

One of the things I have personal experience with is having taken pain pills with acetaminophen back in the day. The Doctor couldn’t prescribe anymore, so he recommended drinking a glass or two of wine each night to help deal with the pain and swelling. I woke up in ICU, the hospital had called my parents and told them to make funeral arrangements. The belief was I would not survive 24 hours. I was also told that my liver would not repair itself. Well I didn’t die obviously lol. And my liver has repaired itself. I was lucky, very lucky. But it was many decades ago and the medical people didn’t know a whole lot about it. I had been on high doses for about ten years.

Good luck!
