Flow Diverter

Hello everyone,

My mother underwent coiling procedure 3 months ago but the aneurysm has recurred again. This time around we decided to go ahead with the flow diverter.

I Would like to know how much does it cost ? and also doctor have told us that he would be inserting about 3 to 4 coils than insert the flow diverter as he claims that inserting coils would induce early thrombosis.

please do comment on the same and share your experiences with flow diverter

Sanjay

I am going to look up Flow Diverter, not familiar with this at all...~ sorry...wish I had more to share...~ Colleen

Sharath, I believe the flow diverter you are talking about is the Pipeline (PED) device. It is a fairly new device. It has been fda approved since 2011. I did have the coiling and the pipeline done this past july. My coils were not staying in so they did the pipeline. There is just a longer recovery with the pipeline. They say 6 months of being on the blood thinners. I am still within my 6 months but doing fine. Some headaches here and there. I do not know the price but do believe its expensive because its such a new device. Good luck. Deb

Deb, thanks for your reply. Yes pipeline is what i am talking about. My mom is on blood thinners now and by the time the pipe line arrives here in India it would be next week.

Doctor said it would cost about 12.5 lakhs (18500 usd). Is it really that expensive? and also about 2 to 3 coils needs to be inserted before the pipeline procedure.

Last time around about 25 coils were inserted and it all went in vain as the blood pushed the coils upfront and there is lot of space below. Is there any side effects other than headaches?

Sharath

Colleen, No problem. Actually Pipeline is much familiar term used worldwide. But here in India its known by flow diverter.
