“A little advice about feelings kiddo; don’t expect it always to tickle… Feelings are scary. And sometimes they’re painful. And if you can’t feel pain, then you’re not going to feel anything else, either.”
These are two quotes from Dr. Berger in the film Ordinary People. This was especially relevant recently as many of the existential dilemmas I had dealt with suddenly re-emerged. I always have the image of being in a funhouse looking at distorted mirrors. However, thankfully, I feel more comfortable once I’ve been reminded of the fact that there are still going to be moments along the recovery journey which are uncomfortable, and that’s okay. So, if you are going through some difficult moments, keep those quotes in mind. Also, thank you to Moltroub, and everyone else who has previously commented, for reaching out.
