Continued Health Issues-anyone else:

Since my coiling/stint this past November, besides the headaches, dizziness, roaring sound at times, and light issues; I am now having other health issues. I recently had a severe allergic reaction to fish and my lower legs have been swelling, and I am having problems with loosing weight. Does anyone else have added on health issues following surgery? If so what.

Hey!

Since my sugeries I have developed a major allergy to antibiotics which I never had a problem with before. I too have lost weight yet the past few weeks I am eatting more then I feel I ever had.

Hi Kimberley,

I had my aneurysm coiled in 2004 and then I had a stent put in I think in 2007?? I know I have a problem with bright lights, I have always have headaches.......I do have a problem losing weight, but I really don't know if I can attribute it to my surgeries??? I started gaining weight, but it was quite a few years after I had the stent put in....I'm not sure I can relate it??? When did you start to notice these problems?

SturdyOne...

We are not told/advised/informed of the relation/connection of our cranial nerves, which lobes, which ventricles and the access arteries to our aneurysms... None (likely) of us were never advised which of those may be affected by treatment... and the related symptoms...

The consent forms are sooo generalized; i.e. we may have stroke (not the cause/reason), we may have an allergic reaction to contrast dye...(not contrast dye extravasation) for which there is minimal data...

I highly recommend that individuals/families/caregivers research cranial nerves, lobes, ventricles and which arteries are the major/general supplier(s) to each of them...

This is all my personal opinion...which can be so expanded...with clinical data...

Lost so much weight my PCP has watched it.,.. my hearing loss, reaction to light (photophobia) have expanded...suggests I was so platinumbed (a/k/a metallic artifacts) I would never ask about it... Hearing/vision connection (via cranial nerve III) coordinate on our balance issues...please remember this is all my non-degreed, non-licensed personal interpretation ...

Three years ago I went thru the leg swelling...on/off...ironically, tested and placed on vitamin D...have overcome any swelling...however, never suggested/told to me, of any connection. It is highly recommended women over 60 be tested for the D level...because of our brain damage I pray that all the younger ones will be tested...a/w/a for B 12...

Most of all, I pray that y'all remember these are my personal opinions...

Hugs and prayers...

Hi Sturdy... I am allergic to many antibiotic's...this happened about 8 years ago...I have found and allergist/immunologist who has helped me greatly with my problem...at the time...I found only a handful in the US...today ... and in the future more will be allergic, because of the overuse of antibiotics in our country...

During that time...I had my first reaction to shrimp...and almost went into shock...I am no longer able to eat any "shell fish" or I will die...I avoid all fish oil pills too...I just had my coiling done in November...no problem with the dyes...however, because of my allergies, just to be safe, my Doctors had me take steroids for 48 hours before surgery and a benadryll the day of the surgery...better to be safe then sorry...but no problem...I hope this helps you out...you make sure everyone knows you have this allergy...Good Luck...Colleen

Yesterday after I answered this I was thinking about what I posted......I did lose alot of weight...almost 80 pounds after my coils...talk about a cloudy head!! I have put back on most of the weight now and am having hard time to get it off...

Did those of you who lost the weight put it back on?

Hi Mary...I only lost a little weight...wasn't overweight...or underweight, but I have kept it off...now it has only been 6 months...My Beta Blocker makes it hard for me to lose weight...although I do watch what I eat...and I walk 3 miles, 7 days a week...and do weights and cardio about 4 days a week...

Sorry about the confusion on the weight, my thinking affects my typing at times-I meant I am having problems with loosing weight (I am gaining weight rapidly). Since I went into anaphyilactic (don’t believe this is spelled correctly;y-sorry) shock-they are attempting to find out what set it off and my legs and hands continue to swell. I have been put on lasic=but by the end of the day my hands and feet are still swollen. My doctors all know I drive a good distance for work but they do not think this is related-but I do know I hurt worse on the days I drive far.

Hi Sturdyville, so sorry to hear of your continuing troubles. I have an unruptured annie which doesnt cause me any problems from what I’m told. I did have surgery a couple of years ago to donate a kidney and since then, I have had issues with my weight, swelling and leg aches. I have also been kinda depressed. Doc said depression can be caused by beta blockers and both can make it difficult to lose weight. I’ve gained quite a bit of weight in the last couple of years. I gave up trying to figure any of it out and just try to get through each day now, forget the doctors. I hope you can get some answers and some relief. I really feel for all those out there that have been treated for their annies and it hasn’t gone so well. Best wishes, Mitch

Welcome back..I thought about you recently...

What testing has been done for you? Were you advised which drug, anesthesia, or extravasated contrast dye may have caused your anaphylactic shock? Likely, they would have some ideas of which item would be most related...to anaphylactic. there is some connection of our brain to the adrenal...I was given a lot of testing to check that out and my PofAs were not advised nor asked for their consent...

Prayers for you...

have high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes with dietary treatment..thinkn i just need to lose a lil weight n i will not have these ailments..lol...hope ur doing great n things r better...love-n-prayers

I do have a great doctor working with me right now-he has checked my heart, circulation, diabetes, and sent me to an allergist-they cannot figure out what caused the allergic reaction and cannot find out why my hands and feet continue to swell. An appointment is suppose to be being set up for me for a specialist to see if it is a chemical problem.

HI Sturdyville...I continue with headaches or aka migraines...I never had before...infact, sometimes I get such a burning in my head...I wonder if at times my body just doesn't like the coils..

Hope you have a good day...! Healing thoughts and prayers your way...Colleen

8 mos out from coiling (unruptured, tho, which I think makes a huge difference in recovery) and I'm fine - feeling normal. It did take a while tho - but I feel like my body has completely "settled" from the invasive surgery and f/u angio.

Hope you get answers and solutions soon...

Thinking good thoughts

I believe I am finding some relief-they feel I may have a messed up thyroid. I am to go in Thursday to a thyroid doctor to make sure this is what is causing the swelling. Thanks everyone for the prayers.

Just a quick update-the doctors are still unsure what I am allergic to and what caused my legs and feet to swell, but they did find that I have hypothyroidism-so I am now going through this! Thanks for all of the prayers-and I go next week for my yearly check-up on the coil and stent.

Hi, sorry to hear, what your experiencing. Ive had 2 coilings done, and have experienced all the same problems as yourself apart from the allergy to fish, although, I have found, body creams, i have always used, now bring me out in very sore spots, all over, and have had to stop using these. My legs swell very bad, especially, when im feeling anxious, or upset, they began swelling, very soon after first coiling, and now swell a lot more frequent, and swell to the extent, i feel my skin will burst. I have asked my surgeon, and other docs, about this, and im told this is not related to the coilings, but i have never been given an explanation what is causing it. It is not water retention, its not related to the coilings, but they dont know what it is. I also have high blood pressure, which is controlled, and regulated with pills, so i dont really have any probs with it. I hope you get the help you need though. I did experience a lot of weight gain at first too, which i felt very uncomfortable with, but the more i was able to move around, and not just sit all day, due to having suffered a stroke down my right side, i felt the weight kinda, went away by itself. I did use an excercise bike, everyday though, as i couldnt do much else, then, which also helped by fight the stroke, which i feel very proud of doing, not to sound big headed lol. Good luck with everything, and hope you find all your answers, and take care. Georgia

Hi Sturdyville,

I experience a roaring sound at night sometimes. Most times I find that if I drink a glass of water it goes away. I assumed it was related to sinuses. I have many of the same issues that are described by other respondents. I've sometimes wondered if they were the aftermath of my surgery or the result of years taking anti-convulsants - they have have some pretty nasty side effects. And, some of it is probably getting older - who knows!

Tomorrow I will have my first angiogram in more than 20 years. I am definitely nervous but I am trusting in the Great Physician.

Take care.

Carole

Hi, my surgery was Jan. 4th. I have headaches and my balance is off. My vision is not the same.
