Body aches and Pains

Hi All,

Keith here, 2 months post clipping. Thanks again for all of your support through this. Question: I am experiencing an unusual amount of body aches and pains, more so in recent weeks. I have remained active so I know this isn’t due to use of inactive muscle groups. I’m talking about pain (soreness) in ankles, joints and other areas. Imagine getting up from sitting and having to limp through pain until it goes away…sit down, all good. Get up 5 minutes later and same deal again.

Have any of you experienced this type of body pain post brain surgery? Going back to work next week part time and this is bothering me a bit.

Cheers.

Hi Keith,
I had pain in my left trapezius for a while. We believe it was the position my head was in during the surgery and perhaps from the head holder itself. I never had joint pain of any kind. You may want to get into your internal medicine physician before you go back to work? When I hear joint pain, I think of osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. The pain while ambulating is atypical of either of those, however. Typically OA and RA get better with exercise/walking. The limping is another reason for concern. I am so sorry you are experiencing all of this! Do you feel you need more time off of work? I took 13 weeks off and my boss was very supportive. I was on short term disability so I kept all of my benefits and pay. I don’t know what your situation is, but pain is just awful and it can be all consuming.

I am thinking about you…
Kim

Hello Keith,
Congratulation on having a successful surgery! Ypu are getting ready to go to work and that is great news. Please do not rush and do not push yourself too hard.
After my craniotomy, I remember having lower back pain at the point that I could hardly walk. I kept applying heat using a hot water bag on my lower back few times a day until the pain went away. Things are going pretty well 30 months after my surgery.
Keep being active, optimistic, stay hydrated and I believe and I wish that all will be good for you!

Good Morning @KMG! I hate your having joint pain, it isn’t fun at all. I know with a rupture, the blood gets into the CSF and it makes the entire spine hurt for a good long time, but I’ve never read on here where someone is having joint pain a a result of brain surgery. When I ruptured, I did do a good bit of limping and rest would help but I was stuck in bed for a couple weeks before I insisted on walking. Anything is possible is what I have learned on here.

I’m agreeing with @phoenix33, a trip to your PCP wouldn’t hurt, just an inconvenience. Although your active now, is it at the same level as before? It does take some time to get back into the swing of things. I was in a nasty accident back in my teen years and have had arthritis since then. The more active I am, the better it feels. PT taught me some wonderful stretches. But it sounds like rest is making you feel best. So I’m just not helpful today. Please get a check up with your PCP so they can start getting it figured out. Be patient, as they tend to have to rule out before a diagnosis can be made.

How are you feeling now about going back to work?

Best,
Moltroub

No to body aches and pains but yes to weird random pains on my head and face, both sides. I have had the meningeal irritation, from when blood during surgery touches meninges and irritates it. That is different. It starts at the top of your spine and works down. Also hamstrings seize up. I would bring this up with your PCP.

Yep- I’ve had the exact same issue post surgery, I am 11 years out and have body aches pains still. No one - not even my neurosurgeons - know what it is but the general consensus from my pcp and other docs I’ve seen say it’s due to the fact that my neuro system took a big hit I’ve tried multiple meds and the one that has worked the best. For me is Effexor ! It’s frustrating. Your

I had a pipe line for a un ruptured aneurysm in February on 2020. Still have aches and pains all over, specially my legs, fingers, ankles and knees. Sometimes it’s just hard to walk. I am physically active, but I pay dearly if I over for it. I’ve heard it gets better later, still waiting. I had groin pain where the catheter was inserted 3 times in one year, that pain finally has gone.
Just happy to be alive!

Yes! Lower back out. Now after 7 years have been in PT and receiving steroid shots in spine. It’s horrible pain. Had to burn some nerves in back. It all happened after surgery.

Hi. I am going through exact same thing. Aneurysm burst dec 25 2020 and I am six months and I still am experiencing joint muscle pain. If I’m at rest it’s when it’s the worst. My hand arms hurt so bad through the night. Weak getting up after sitting for long. I walk 5 km a day so as well I no it’s not from doing nothing. My doctor cannot figure out why. Been through every test. So if it doesn’t go away within this week he wants to try me on cymbalta says it may help. I don’t like pills so I went to a natural path specialist and my visit is in two weeks so maybe they will help too. Wish you luck and a speedy recovery. Hope your pains go away soon.

Sorry to hear about your shots in the spine. If all of this happened after surgery, I wonder if somehow the nerves, or something is out of balance, alignment, or trapped etc?
