Biofeedback?

Hi,

I am two years out from ruptured annie. I have short term memory issues and when tired, speech problems. It was suggested to me to try "biofeedback". I was wondering if anyone has tried this, or knows someone who has tried it.

I thank you in advance for a reply.

Ellen,

My wife gets EEG Neuro-Biofeedback weekly from a Specialist and it is covered by medical insurance. It has been nothing short of transformative for her as she had ruptured annie and clipping 21 years ago and had suffered debilitating migraines for 19 of those years. She still gets migraines due to certain triggers but they last such a short time.

The reason why EEG Neurofeedback works is due to certain parts of the brain and the central nervous system become what is called tightly wound much like a muscle cramp only it is brain neurons that become "tight." The neurofeedback helps the brain become relaxed and more open.

I was initially skeptical that this would work for my wife, but WOW, I can't say enough about the treatment or the technology behind it. Unfortunately you won't find much information about this technology because most people want to reach for the medication which only temporarily mask the problems.

If you are interested in learning more I'll be happy to tell you as much as you want to know.

I have also begun to use the technology myself for some anxiety and stress issues and I was so surprised by its results and I'm considered "normal".

Ed,

Thanks so much for the information. My insurance won't cover any of the expense, or so I'm told. I live in Tulsa, OK & am retired from the State of OK. I am curious as to what type of insurance you have.

Yesterday was my 3rd session as Renuyou here in Tulsa. I am finding all of this fascinating. My sister has been kind to take the time to go with me because she knows I will not understand or remember what I am told. The information you shared with me is positive and encouraging. I thank you for taking the time to reply. I hope I have the success that your wife has had. Also, I hope you have success!!

I will gladly hand over my credit card tomorrow and hope for the best!

Thank you again,

Ellen

Ellen,

Under the new health care law there is more coverage for mental health services. EEG Neurofeedback is Biofeedback and cannot be denied. You see, anything to do with the brain and its perception and learning is classified as mental health simply because medical does not really understand the pathology of pain or how the brain really operates and perceives the world we live in. Neurology and Neuroscience really only study what can be pathologically identified. For example, one person perceives pain differently then another person so medical science can't properly classify or differentiate pain so it has to be understood from a mental health perspective.

I would suggest that you find provider that does EEG Neurofeedback (or biofeedback but suggest EEG Neurofeedback) and then they can guide you through the insurance maze. Just so you know, the health care portability act requires mental health coverage and no can be discriminated to deny it. Also it should covered by medicare if you receive this as primary.

If you want I can look up a list of providers with OK - just let me know if you want to proceed.

WOW Ed way to go with the detailed information!!!

There’s a ton of info online. Also call your insurance provider perhaps it’s the facility you are going to that’s not covered

I start biofeedback next month on the recommendation of my Neurologist. I chose to not have another SPG block because my headaches tell me when I’m overdoing. I know many here scream to have the headaches stop. I found my tremor and speech would get really bad but I had no way to know unless I spoke or stopped the activity I was involved in at the time.

I learned biofeedback in college. Was covered in a few classes mainly bio psychology So many fun things like how to pass a lie detector test, how to perform a frontal lobotomy…

I’m interested in seeing what my psychologist has up his sleeve since I’ve taught relaxation breathing for over 20 years. I controlled my BP in ICU causing the Drs to give me more and more meds to keep it up (LOL). One also started hitting my foot and telling me “stop that”! But in 19 months since rupture I have only visualized one thought and visualization can play a big role

Remember to practice earnestly everything you learn whether you need it or not in the moment
