Good Afternoon y’all! We’ve had a busy morning and I’m quite tuckered out. Met up with friends for breakfast and since they’re older, we talk more. Yes I am older than I was, and I’m grateful for it. I know y’all understand that sentiment, I hope.
Anyhow the five of us used to get together every other weekend and then it went to once a month and now it’s maybe a handful of times a year. But always right before Christmas, always. Even if someone was working the weekend shift. I can’t tell you how long we’ve all been doing this, but obviously back when I was working. Whomever got stuck working on the weekend, just ordered a breakfast sandwich in case they were paged. It’s great to get together with people you care about and mostly like too!
Early on the road of Life after rupture, I couldn’t tolerate loud noises, big groups of folks etc. A big difference in my personality was talking, non stop talking it felt like, even to me. I couldn’t control it. I used to be a listener, not a talker unless there was something very important to say. Still this was the first place BH and I ventured out to with friends. It was a horrendous painful experience for me at the time. Besides the fact that lighting was bright, loud noise, high pitched squeals and cries from babies and toddlers, etc My stuttering, robot sounding, non stop talking increased even more. So much so, one of my friends told me, it was not all about me. As many of us do when we come out of NSICU or when we discover we have an aneurysm, it becomes our center of focus and hard to get it out of our minds, right? I mean it was my experience for 26 days after all. Did it shut me up? Of course it didn’t, try as I might I just couldn’t stop. Did I keep trying? Yep, what else could I do? Luckily I had no affect at the time or it would have caused some emotional pain. Several breakfasts later and the one person who has historically needed to be the center of attention kept talking so unfortunately I said the same thing told to her. Oops, yikes, big mistake it did cause some emotional distress and I was called out on it. I didn’t understand why it was ok to tell me the same thing but not for me to tell the other individual. Granted humans just generally confused me back then. Sometimes I still try to figure it out and still have no good answer. Humans still baffle and confuse me.
Times change, years have past and today that individual was hardly saying a word. Restaurant has changed ownership after almost three decades, only one cook remained with the new owner. So it wasn’t the food, it was good and cost more, checked to make sure she was ok. This unfortunately happened while another friend, my best friend, was talking. So I got a look that said I definitely shouldn’t have done that, oops. But because years have passed and I’ve been working on everything I know how to work on, I can read people’s body language and looks better than the earlier years. I knew to stop asking, I count that as a win! See old dogs can be taught new tricks! Or should it be better said, “See neurotransmitters can reconnect!” ROFLOL thanks for understanding that…
Did you know today is the 8th day of Chanukah? Yes sirree it is. Hope all our friends who practice Judiasm has had a wonderful 8 days of lighting the Menorrah!
Holidays always bring to mind The Hobbit and the following trilogy. I think I received The Hobbit for a Christmas gift in the late ‘60’s. Santa used to bring me Nancy Drew books, my brothers received The Hardy Boys. The oldest sibling usually received some magazine that she was into at the time. Since I can’t remember who gifted it, I’m throwing odds at my oldest brother’s girlfriend of the time. His girlfriends were always good at helping him pick out gifts. I’ve loved J.R. Tolkien since then (well maybe since the cartoon had come out) and I want to leave you all with a quote before the welcomes get started.
“There is nothing like looking, if you want to find something. You certainly usually find something, if you look, but it is not always quite the something you were after.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, [The Hobbit, or There and Back Again]
@Ula starts us off this week. Ula is in the UK and will be going in for clipping in February next year. Surgeon said clipping is the only alternative due to having an allergy to nickel. Fortunately, Ula is very fit and healthy! But shares that extreme anxiousness has come. We get it Ula, come talk to us. We can’t share if you don’t…
@723misstish is up in NY here in the States. Tracey shares that having small seizures and passing out, fought and found a neurologist when was told about having an aneurysm. Tracey opted for coiling and everything went smoothly. 6 months later horrible migraines began occurring daily and has been put on meds for them. Memory is getting worse, spelling which once came easily has caused extra thought processing to get it right. Oh boy I hate when that happens! Take a breathe, it will come or not, luckily there is always spell check! Some of our members have found great things to help with increasing memory issues or stabilizing them Tracey. Look around the site using the magnifying glass or start a new topic and hopefully some folks will let you in or what has worked for them.
@FearWonder is done South of me in Alabama where they holler Roll Tide and something Auburn says but I’m banned from remembering it (Go Tigers). FearWonder has already started a new topic found here Sharing my new story…. Go say hey, hi ya, welcome aboard, how ya doin? You could even say hi or hello and give some support why don’t you?
@wb_intern is here to help us out! Woo Hoo! I always get excited when we get a new intern even though they don’t start a new topic, sometimes they will respond to one if they feel the urge. They certainly do a lot of reading as that’s expected I do believe, please don’t quote me. It’s perfectly okey dokey to welcome them here or there or anywhere wb. Thanks For Agreeing to come join us and do feel welcome to add any support you want. Anyhow wb is a med student doing an internship with Ben’s Friends who as you know monitors the site (and me) for the BAF. They do a pretty darn good job in my opinion which is not humble on this subject.
Finishing up the weekend is @Miraclegirl in Arkansas. Kathy ruptured back in 2013 and repair on 2nd one and then repair to both in 2024 and 2025. Treated with coils, stent, web procedure, plavix and aspirin. Currently dealing with pulsating tinnitus and looking for answers. Hey Kathy! I ruptured back in 2013 as well are we related? Please start a new topic under the General tab.
Please stay safe this week, no drinking or use of illegal substances and driving especially if you’ve got kids in the vehicle. There are definitely enough crazy fools out this time of year and we don’t need another statistic. Remember to hydrate, eat protein and rest as needed. Winter here north of the equator can make us forget hydration is very important for lots of things. Safe holidays!
