Your favorite mocktail?

I probably should have raised this pre-holidays, but, hey it works for Dry January too … or Dry Life post rupture too!

Ironically, I was not a drinker even in my teens and early twenties, but only came into alcohol in my late 20s. Of course, being a rupturee, alcohol has now strongly been discouraged from my life. So, I was one step ahead of our (US) Surgeon General* by a few months!

Most of the times I don’t really mind, except for the awkward social situations where you are the oddball in the room not drinking, or when others perceive (incorrectly, I want to add!) you are judging them because they are. Navigating social life post-rupture is a whole other topic though!

For this one though, I want to focus in on what your favorite mocktails might be? Have you found something yummy that you enjoy and feels festive?

The closest I have gotten is the (U.S. perennial) famous sparking apple cider available over the holidays, but I drank it out of a champagne glass to seem more festive - and it worked for me.

Last summer, I tried blueberry lemonade that was also yummy, but since blueberries are one of my very favorite things, that would be no shock.

So, now I am on the hunt for something that is festive, readily available (either both at home or easily ordered when out), and - best of all - yummy!

Thanks for all the suggestions!

P.S. I forgot another one I tried over the summer was Hibiscus Lime Sangria, courtesy of Brain Health Kitchen. One of my friends is NOT a fan of monk fruit, so I took her advice and didn’t even try it.
I do not recall if I used a sweetener or just did without. It was pretty good, but I also likely also added blueberries as well as blackberries.

*For those outside the States or who have not heard, our Surgeon General (i.e., top U.S. governmental doctor) has recommended that alcohol have warning labels similar to tobacco products because of its link to cancer. Will be interesting to see how all this unfolds culturally!

Yeah, I was not a big drinker myself pre-rupture anyways, since one glass of wine had me cross-eyed . We had a Thanksgiving potluck and a friend gifted me this Best All Natural Drink Mixers for Cocktail & Mocktail | Zurena from the local DC Farmers’ Market. I quite enjoyed! I also resort to good ol’ Ginger Beer from FeverTree (you can find a case at Costco), which of course is non-alcoholic, but if you drink from the bottle can pretend you’re having a real beer - lol! Then there is Pink Lady Apple® Kombucha – Health-Ade which is good for your digestive microbiome, if you’re trying to be productive with your mocktail.

That’s as much fun as I have with “mocktails”!

Cheers! :clinking_glasses:

Hi Fin Whale Fan,

I’m not a big mocktail person myself, but my husband is and twice I’ve gotten him a gift of Ghia apertif: Ghia | All of the spirit none of the booze

One of my guidelines for mocktails is that they should be “more complex than something I’d make for myself” and Ghia definitely fits the bill.

Best wishes,

Katie

First Three Musketeers, then tobacco products and now alcohol! My oh my what is the world coming to?. I am allowed an occasional glass of wine, and sometimes I drink a beer in the Summer, if I’ve earned it. The amount I drink in a month isn’t enough to put down on the forms at the doctors, much less the year. A couple of our young friends were pregnant this time last year and missing libations. The coffee shop we buy our beans at has non alcoholic alcohol! Whiskey, tequila and rum and something else by Ritual. Sometimes I will order a drink I would get as a kid going out to dinner with my folks Roy Roger’s or Shirley Temple. Usually the bartenders put grenadine in them now where it used to be cherry juice, grenadine is too sweet for me.

@FinWhaleFan
Half a glass of sparkling water and the rest with apple juice makes a good mock tail drink.
In my mother country overseas, there is an alcohol free beer that is good. I don’t know if we have something similar in the US. There is also a large assortment of alcohol free wine that is really good.
