Hi all, I had a 4mm unruptured anuerysm coiled and stented (wide neck) on Feb. 11th. At my one month post op appointment my surgeon said I was to stop my plavix (I'm on plavix 75mg and 325mg aspirin) at 6 weeks post op. Seems like most people I have seen on here have stayed on plavix for 6 months. Anyone else go off plavix at 6 weeks? I would really appreciate your feedback, feeling a little nervous. :/
I seen 4 neurosurgeons before my surgery and each one had a difference in opinions on plavix. One said 6 weeks, one said 6 months and one said 3 months. Idk why they're all so different. I know that doesnt help you, but just wanted to let you know what I've experienced
I personally have been on it 10 months because my first angio keeps getting pushed back.
I am feeing good since surgery, thank you for asking! I had a hematoma after surgery, so that is taking one to fully go away, but it’s 75% better. Just get anxious at times about what the future holds, but mainly right now about stopping the plavix.
I wouldn't be overly concerned about the Plavix. Each Doctor has their own opinion on how long to stay on it. It is only to give extra help to not clot as is the aspirin. I have been on Plavix for almost 8 years except one year (last year) on Eliquis.(but I have CAD with 5 stents). Last July I was taken off both of them and the first week of January 2016 I had another mini-stroke, and then open-heart surgery with a PFO closure the end of January, so of course BACK on Plavix. The aspirin should serve the same purpose; to keep the blood thinner, to not clot. I believe with the aneurysm, the higher factor is blood pressure, to keep it as low as possible. But you should stay on the aspirin no matter what.
My clinoid segment/ left ICA surgery (coils w/stenting ) is scheduled for this Thursday, June 2nd.
I had a 10mm left ICA/Ophthalmic artery aneurysm repaired on 4/1/15 (PED and coil). RIght after surgery, I had many light floaters and vision issues. Got better as time went by, but as soon as I was taken off Plavix, like some people here, I had partial vision loss twice (plus many ocular migraines), and I was told they were tiny clots, and was placed back on Plavix. THat improved, but after problems with Plavix a few months later, they did an MRA and found that blood was still flowing into my aneurysm. I was urged by another dr to get a second opinion, and a top PED surgeon just told me that my PED was not lodged in properly and was causing my vision issues and if not repaired, I could go blind. Also, that the reason there was still an opening was that my surgeon used a Pipeline that was too small! Please do not ignore vision issues, and get a second opinion! Having another surgery in one month. Best of luck!!
Best in your procedure. I will be saying prayers and then an extra one. I had 2 eye "specialists" (one retina and regular eye) tell me the eye is done. I have one more Retina specialist on the 17th (Thursday). The first one already started the lazer burning and next one 1 week, so I'll have another answer first. They are saying I had an artery and vein occlusions that cannot be repaired. Once they relealized I couldn't see from the left eye I had an emergency cath again and they thought it was a collaped artery, but I guess found the clot, and started pumping TPAs in, which then created another stroke.
I am starting to learn to not PANIC, try to build my bridge and "get over it" or at least accept it.
I am so very sorry, JR. Was your aneurysm initially in your Ophthalmic artery? What created the problems initially? A failed Pipeline surgery? I am so sorry. Prayers this retina specialist can help!!! And so glad they cought the clot on time!!! My very best wishes, and prayers for a solution!!! And no more problems!

So sorry that vision issues occured--please stay on top of it, and get a second opinion from an endovascular surgeon/neurosurgeon. Maybe they can save your eye, and fix what is causing the problem!!

3.5 x 7 mm projecting medially from clinoid (transitional) section of left ICA.He said could see enough on the CT so he said he didn't need an MRI.
