Types of Hearing Loss

Several of us have addressed hearing issues...from not hearing, not comprehending hat we hear...and/or tinnitus...

When I had the extensive testing initially...post minimally invasive procedures...

the test results / other data provided to me notes:

Types of Hearing Loss:

Conductive Hearing Loss: occurs when sound is not conducted properly thru the outer and middle ear systems. this loss usually involved a reduction in hearing level, or the ability to hear soft sounds. this type of hearing loss often can be corrected thru medicine or surgery.

Sensorineural Hearing Loss: Occurs when there is damage to the inner ear (cochlea) or to the nerve pathways (auditory nerve) from the inner ear to the brain. Sensorineural hearing loss involves a reduction in hearing level and also can affect speech understanding or the ability to hear clearly.

Mixed hearing Loss: Sometimes a sensorineural hearing loss occurs in combination w/a conductive hearing loss. In other words, there may be damage in the outer or middle ear and in the inner ear or auditory nerve.

It also has recommendations...skipping to: f/up w/ ENT re: ringing (tinnitus)

Hope this may help anyone w/varying symptoms...to help in what to ask your doctors...

Had clip surgery five months ago. the ear on the side of the surgery reminds me of being in an airplane or traveling up a mountain. Muffled sound. but occasionally i can swallow just right and the ear will open up. Or, occasionally if i hold my nose and exhale gently, it wil open up. Just like on an airplane. Usually after two to three minutes, the sounds are muffled again. any hints?

Sounds like a problem with your Eustachian tube. I'd see an ENT.

Tinnitus can also be caused by medication, particularly Plavix and Aspirin which a lot of us are on. Just an FYI cause I thought I was going crazy and the ENT kept telling me all was okay. When I dropped Plavix it went away.

Good advice. ThNjs

Ask your docs...neurosurgeon to PCP...re: referral to right otology, neurotology, ENT, etc...

Last week, I asked our "ask the doc"...about the brain-death cranial nerve testing...hoping cranial nerve testing will become brain-recovery tests...

I just experimented w/holding my nose...I did not do as you described...as I held my nose closed...the pulsation behind my right eye began...so I stopped and re-read...

Do you have tinnitus? Mine was horrible...still have it...but lighter...another story...

Please let us know if/when you see a specialist ...and, the results...and, keep in touch between all... I was so delighted reading your initial input...tho you meet so much belief I have in the long-term open surgery...which, unfortunately, I was not provided...

My best hint...ask your docs about referrals, testings, therapies...

You are blessed it went away after plavix...I had the tinnitus after the first coil or two...and only in my left ear...Plavix during/after my last f/up angio... and had migraine aura and the mass bruising began...stopped early...

Tara...seeing your picture...is wonderful...

I had a pendant designed...have been thinking how to intro it...decided to use my pendant for my pic...thank you, thank you...it won't have your brightness...

It is all learning for me...my tech recently taught me how to use the brush/color on a pic...Last night memory blanked...Somehow I tripped over the "type" portion...practiced with that one...

My hearing loss relates to the inner ear...CN VIII...

Thanks! =). I’d love to see the pendant!

My left sinus has been clogged since the surgery, but the surgery was pipeline on the right… Opthalmic & carotid branch… So, it really makes no sense at all. Neti pot helps.

I often wonder what aspirin does to us…

Sorry to hear about the ringing! I know hoe extremely frustrating it was for me! Hang in there!

I had only 8 weeks prescription of Plavix...and, had to stop that early; back on full aspirin and bruising continued...down to the 81...and bruising still...so I stopped it...several years back...

Recently had to have ER..and, ultrasound was done to check for clots...I had none..

Well...actually I did not think I needed it...but it was recommended...the best news is...I was correct... some day I will write my story...and, none of it related to an ear ringing...

Yet...I have to get my ear rings that go w/my pendant... I hide from cold weather...so have not been out for them... I may post my pendant first..
